Post subject:  rules questions
A few questions for players who know the rules better:
1) Can planetfalling skimmers activate in the same turn?(I'm thinking stormravens) I'm thinking the rulebook only says AC count as grounded and cannot move
2) do mounted infantry get -1 to be shot at if on overwatch?

1) Yes they can activate planetfalling isn't a activation just a means to get to the board.

2) It could perhaps be argued that it's not totally clear from the RAW, but my interpretation is no. This is because:

2.1.10 Mounted
Some infantry units are noted as being mounted, and will either ride on bikes or living creatures such as horses. Mounted units count as vehicles for terrain effects, and as infantry units for all other purposes.


and the rule about cover from overwatch and hugging vehicles is in a talbe with the following heading

SPECIAL RULE
1.8.4 Terrain Effects

Open Ground: Infantry count as being in cover (-1 to hit modifier) and receive a 5+ cover save if they are on Overwatch in Open Ground. This represents the fact that stationary infantry are very hard to see. Note that the save will be lost after the infantry shoot and the Overwatch marker is removed.

Armoured Vehicles: Infantry count as being in cover and receive the -1 to hit modifier (but no cover save) if they are touching an armoured vehicle or war engine, to represent their ability to take cover from enemy fire by crouching behind the vehicle.

They don't count as infantry for purposes of terrain, just being in the terrain isn't enough to get the -1 to be hit they have to be "hull down". So unless they're hull down when taking overwatch fire I'd say no.

Thanks for quick replies!
Just one more question:
Can a unit assault out of a broken storm serpent? I've seen nothing to suggest that the wraithgate stops working, but just thought I'd check. In the games where it's happened it ddoes seem to make the SS very good indeed!

Yes it can, same with necron portals, it's not uncommon for broken storm serpents and monoliths to come racing towards you when they're broken....
