When planes are intercepting other planes, do they HAVE TO move within range of all their own AA weapons, or can they hang back and shoot just 1?
For example...A Thunderbolt fighter has AA at 15cm and 30cm. When going after a Marauder Bomber (with it's own AA at 15cm), can the fighter hang back and just fire its AA at 30cm? Thus dodging the bombers AA.
Same question for ground attack. Could thunderbolt hand back 30cm and just fire some weapons VS moving into 15cm of its target to shoot all guns possible?
As side question, can someone clarify AA that shoots at aircraft as they move off, in particular the AA of other aircraft. Does this AA only work if planes exit the table via moving into range of planes that haven't moved off yet? Or can the bomber in the above example swing past the fighter that hung back and shoot at while moving off.
Thanks!

Yes and yes. I'm a big fan of hitting THawks to the side out of their FxF arc, they only get one shot on you there. You can place AC wherever their movement restrictions allow. Technically they don't even have to be in coherency...
All AC disengage at the same time, so they don't get to shoot AA at one another. If an AC landed and did not disengage it would get to take shots at others disengaging however, assuming it didn't shoot at those AC on their way in.

Interesting, thanks!
So do Marauder bombers ever end up using their 15cm AA? Is it mostly to make fighters think twice about coming to optimum range?
And to clarify aircraft AA...the only time your aircraft get passive AA is when enemy planes fly directly into sight/range during their own activation? Otherwise just at intercept targets?

The only time an non-landed AC gets to fire AA at an enemy AC is when the enemy AC ends its approach move within range and arc. You don't get a shot at an enemy that passes through your arc/range, just if it ends its move there.
