The title says it all. I have a relatively large collection of Epic Tyranids, including models from 2nd edition and Epic 40,000. Which of the two army lists - Onachus or Leviathan - is most suited to using these models? I suspect Onachus is the army list I'm looking for, but since that document is woefully lacking in background or explanatory text, I thought I should check first. About all I could gather from the v10.2 document is that it's apparently the hive fleet sent against the Squats? |

The Onachus list is the main one, yes. It's meant to be the "old school" list, so think 2nd edition 40k, and the prior versions of Epic, fluff-wise. We're using it for the Epic: Xenos supplement to explain who ate the Squats, but you could use it for Behemoth easily. The filler text will come once it's in the supplement. It's currently in development right now, so any playtests are very much welcome. |

It's probably going to get an outing against the Ork list from the EA rulebook, so I don't know if that will be of any use to you. As an aside, what did you have in mind to represent Raveners? And what weapons, exactly, does a Heirophant have? is it a Pyro-acid spray, ripper tentacles, 2 gigantic talons and then the tentacles OR razorclaw? and the razorclaw has two attack modes? |

That would definitely help. The Ork list is pretty much unchanged from what it was in the rulebook. The latest is up in the Tournament Pack in my signature if you're interested in printing that out. For Raveners, I had thought to use Warrior torsos on 40k Ripper bodies. The 'phant has a the spray, tentacles and 2 talons by default, and then your choice of a bile launcher or razorclaw. The razorclaw has both extra attacks in FF and CC. |

One more thing; with the medium and large Tyranid Swarms, do I literally have to pick a small swarm and double or can I mix and match the units? Can I, for example, take two Hive Tyrants and two stands of Tyranid Warriors in a Large Swarm? Likewise, I take it the maximum of one additional Tyranid Warrior stand upgrade isn't doubled or tripled for Medium and Large Swarms? |

A Large swam would allow you to take: 3 Tyrants 2 Tyrants and 2 Warriors 1 Tyrant and 4 Warriors 6 Warriors Extras are doubled and tripled, see the upgrades section on page 9. |

Dave had it covered but yes Onachus is the list suited for the old school tyranids. Do post up your feedback and if possible battle reports of your games and that helps shape and balance the list and get it closer to being approved. Newer Tyranid and Forge World units have gone a different direction instead and these have been represented in the Leviathan list, which also has different special rules and has gone a different direction. The rulebook had various errata released over time and the Epic community have over time rebalanced the lists to fix internal balance issues (the rulebook had a number of Space Marine, Imperial Guard and Titan formations that were found to be under or over costed). The Ork list is virtually unchanged but I would still generally recommend getting a copy of the 2013 Tournament Pack (basically the EpicA rulebook including the errata changes plus FAQ below on each page, along with the army lists balanced enough to be declared 'approved' by the community) printed out and bound, or have it on a laptop near by. |

The tournament pack which doesn't contain the army list I want to use, yes? ![]() On which note, is the army list compendium due for revision soon? I note that the most recent version of the Hive FLeet Onachus list is 10.2, but the compendium is a year old and only has 10.0. |

Hoping to get a ALC out before 2014. Any reason you can't just use 10.2 on its lonesome though? |

No reason - I was just wondering when the next "edition" is out. |
