As per title :) anyone have any suggestions? Or experience of 3 armies on the field?

At the moment we are thinking some sort of "King of the Hill" type idea

There's a collection of scenarios for an on-again:off-again supplement by Chroma called EA: Total War. There's some good fodder in there I expect.

I've never run 3 armies in a game (or I should say 3 opposing sides)

I think it's difficult to get a good three-player scenario because this type of game really isn't meant for three players. Probably the best you're going to get is to have one player vs. two players. Obviously, the two player side will split the points allotment.

A King of the Hill scenario could work, assuming one player is in the middle and the two other players come in from opposite ends of the table. Again though, the two players have to split the points, since they're obviously ganging up on the first player.

EDIT: There is a scenario in the 40K rulebook called "Broken Alliance" - I'll take a look at it and see if it can apply to Epic.

Look at Warmaster for 3 player scenarios.

Usually involves a team mate facing insurmountable odds to hopefully be rescued by his team mate in a future (random) round.

Epic is a faster paced (movement wide) game however so not sure how it would work with Teleporters and Freefall however worth a go.

@berzerkmonkey It would be an all v all king of the hill. Victory point for the team holding the hill would come from keeping the objective to the final turn, OR if 50 % of the other two armies is destroyed or broken.

For the two attacking sides victory points would be taking the objective while still holding their own OR for holding their objective and the other attacker on the other side of the map.

Additional VP's for the usual (BTS etc)

Ok, got your mission here (and it seems pretty cool, actually...)

Quote:
Deployment: Place an objective marker in the center of the table. This represents the meeting place. Each player then places an objective marker (representing the player's home base) at least 18" from the center of the table and at least 30" from another player's home base. To determine base placing order, each player rolls a D6 - highest places first, followed by other players in order of their rolls. Each player places an HQ within 6" of their base camp.

Using the same order, players place their units within 12" of their camp, and more than 24" away from enemy units.

Objective: The central meeting place marker and player objectives must be controlled. The player controlling the most Objective markers wins.

Special Rules: Confusion - The armies are unprepared for battle. All units roll a D6 - those that roll a 4+ can act normally. Those that fail cannot act until the second turn (though they will fight normally if assaulted by an enemy.)

Three player rules - Assaults cannot be launched against ongoing combats, so three-way close combat is not possible.

Shooting into close combat - A player may shoot into an assault that does not include his own units. Nominate the target unit as normal. Having rolled to hit, you will need to determine which unit you sctually strike. For each hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ you hit the target unit, any other result means the target's opponents were hit.

Obviously, it will take some tweaking - especially distances and the "Shooting into Close Combat" rule, but I think it seems like a pretty fun mission. I also think that you'd have to tweak your points value - three 3000 point armies on one table is going to be awfully tight. Shooting into close combat seems especially interesting... >:D

Our club did work on a 3player scenario but i don't have the file with me atm.

Will try to post as soon as i have it in front of me :)

We haven't overcome the 'gang up issue' yet though.

Hmm the firing into an assualt is interesting. It may be fairer that any hits are split equally between the two forces involved in the assualt? This would represent a 3rd just firing haphazardly into the two opposing forces? The hits are allocated to the closest units?

For Epic it's easy - just treat both enemy formations as a single intermingled formation and allocate hits accordingly.

Not that you get ongoing combats to shoot into...

It was a NetEpic rather than E:A battle, but I thoroughly enjoyed the 3 player battle I played.

3 player battle done. We used a triangular board and had a force in each corner. 7 objectives (2 in each players corner plus one in the middle) VP's for holding the two in your corner ( 1 VP) holding the middle (1 VP) 1 VP for holding an enemy objective and 1 for BTS

IG, SM and Eldar. SM won - 3 VP. IG and Eldar had 1 VP each. Terminators won it for me :)
