Just though I would post and say hello. I was a long time 40K player who sold his Space Wolves and Eldar armies along time ago (before I went to uni) During my 40K phase, I also bought Space Marine epic, Titan Legions and Blood Bowl + Dungeon Bowl but sadly could never find anyone to play. I did dabble and paint some of it though. After seeing the prices that decent Space Marine Mk 6 army will fetch on ebay I headed out to my folks to see if there was any of it still kicking about. There wasnt ![]() If anyone is located in Scotland, more specifically Aberdeenshire and fancies showing me the ropes let me know! On a seperate note, having skim read the EA, Space Marine, and NetEpic rules, whats the major diffrences?? I am sure this has been covered on here a million times! Is it worth posting this in the NetEpic part of the forum too?? Thanks guys |

Hi there, and welcome aboard. You've picked a good time to join – we're in the process of preparing a forum guide thread to help explain the various bits and pieces. It can be found here: http://www.tacticalwargames.net/taccmd/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=25303 Bit of a WIP, so if you would like to help, some questions and insight from a fresh member would be spiffy ![]() http://www.tacticalwargames.net/taccmd/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=25304 |

welcome! In a nutshell, netepic is a development of the space marine rules, the rules are pretty much the same but there are tweaks to balance things out and generally improve the game E:A is a big development of the e40k rules, it retains the more tactical approach and is quite abstract, but has a lot more flavour than e40k did, I think E:A is a good blend between space marine and e40k myself, and I love it! There seem to be several netepic players north o' the border, it may weol be worth posting in that section too ![]() |

Thanks kyussinchains So if netepic is a balance/tweak of SM, is NetEA a tweaked version of EA?? I guess what I am getting at is that I presume most of the games are similar, and if so which is the best to try first as I have aquired most of the rules! Do people play more than one?! |

So whats the difference!? Haha when I dug this stuff out the loft I though "yup, got a nice big house of my own so I can have a gaming room, plus the kids and nephew will enjoy it" now I am getting confused! |

Welcome to the forums! I've played a lot of both Space Marine / Titan Legions (which Net-Epic evolved from) and EpicA (Net-EA is the same game and rules, just with some community rebalancing of the lists and a wider range of lists). To cover some of the differences that you're asking for: Space Marine has extensive over-complicated individual special rules its units, with whole A4 pages of mixed text and background at times, whereas EpicA has a much more streamlined system of mostly common special rules. EpicA armies are more inline with current 40k. Space Marine has a diverse and very extenive range of cards, counters and templates. EpicA doesn't use any, just the same small and large blast templates as 40k and blast markers (some people use dice to track these). The Space Marine game system is ok and I enjoyed playing dozens of games back in my youth, but EpicA i sa WAY better system, with much more maneuver and tactics. There are blast markers which have a signifigant game effects. Space Marine was developed by GW, EpicA had a lot of community involvement with rules and list development during it's creation, producing a better game for it. Where I've seen people talk about playing on here and in real life I would guesstimate 75-90% of epic players play EpicA. There are 10 or so EpicA tournaments in the UK a year, see whereas I've never heard of a Net-Epic or Space Marine tournament. CaptainSenioris is in Edinburgh and plays EpicA, with a very large range of epic armies, check out his log, it's inspirational. If you don't have local players a good option is to get together two armies (painted if possible) and talk some 40k players into giving it a try. Getting to use titans and wings of aircraft in regular games can be a draw. |

Many thanks GlynG. All makes more sense. I will probably give both a try anyway ![]() I have managed to convince a few guys I know who do 40K or Necro to give it a try. I have the armies that came in the Space Marine box (Eldar, Or and SM) plus a medium sized imperial guard and a medium sized SM army so I have enough to supply both sets of models. |

Happy to help. Orks and IG are generally regarded as the best armies for learning EpicA btw, the special rules and tactics of SM or Eldar take a little more getting the hang of. |

It was SM I had in 40K and when I bought epic in autdiggity 6 I bough a load extra and started to paint them as Dark Angels. I still have alot unpainted though and not sure I still have the skill, or indeed will be able to get the correct colours, to make them match! |
