Post subject:  Genestealer cults?

morning all,
I have recently found my love for epic again, having taken part in the winter warmer recently :-)
however with very little practice games I resorted to my minervan tank legion, however having recently found the genestealer cult list I'm starting to get some games in, but I am struggling.

my first issue is with genestealers, my main opponents are necrons and elder and the prevalence of skimmers makes these shock units basically useless, does anyone have any tips for the proper use of stealers?

secondly is the inner circle unit, I haven't found a good use for them, the hybrids slow the stealers down (again I have the above issue) and the brood brothers seem like a better investment?

I will be posting an army list up in the list section and reporting back, in the meantime tips will be massively appreciated!

This is not a tip on how to play the list, but for miniatures.

If your scanning these boards regularly then you've probably already seen this. Some rather good proxies will shortly be released by onslaught miniatures. Check this thread, if you don't have enough GW miniatures.

welcome back to the superb game of epic! :)

cheers

CC specialist armies will struggle against Eldar and Necrons, due to the Skimmer rules. Genestealers are Scouts however, and therefore can be used in various ways to hinder your enemy with their extended ZOC - either defensively (protecting vital formations), or aggressively (placing an enemy formation in your ZOC, therefore restricting the enemy in their choice of activation).

Interesting notion to use stealers as an enemy tractor beam.

I have sourced plenty of stealer, I have about 30 stands built and a few bags of loose spares :-)

I have seen sentinels used to force activations, his usually involved a nearby unit shooting them, but stealers can be a little harder to kill than sentinels.

Regarding the Inner Circle, I consider it a dedicated engagement formation, the key being the Transports upgrade. Hybrids have a decent 5+ FF. Something like:

Inner Circle, Hybrids, Magus, Civilian Vehicles comes at 385 points. If you have a Tank Platoon, it will not be the BTS, and pack some Engagement punch.

I would not run it without Transports, because as you say, the Hybrids slow them down, and if you want a Scout garrison, a pure Genestealer formation will serve you better. I notice that you can take upgrades with your support formations, which makes Genestealers + Transport or Sentinels + Hydra other viable Scout formations.
