Update 1)
So far I have framed the detachments and upgrades to include, added preliminary point costs and stats for new items, in a rough working document. Many items in the list have been covered in other epic armies, and many are similar to other units and weapons.
I have begun to create a clean and legible document which will be the first play testing list when I am finished entering all of the data and army special rules. It will then be playtested under the standard tournament scenario, whilst missions and other information are written. I should have that first playtest document finished on the weekend.

Some units did not make the list, which were a little bit too specialized for epic gaming, or still too incomplete in range, including siege breaker squads, destroyer squads, seeker squads, techmarine covenants with servitors and other mechanicus units. I anticipate that some of these units may be important to specific legions and battles down the track and can be added in for those purposes, but at epic scale as it is, function quite similar to regular tactical or assault squads. The mechanicus should be added in the future as allies units, once they have been further fleshed out (so to speak).

I don't currently see a need to add any Legion-specific units at this point in time- primarchs are all just enhanced men with roughly the same destructive capability, and other units like deathshroud, or world eaters with chain axes, are cosmetic at epic level. The armies will be able to be built around unit selection that matches the particular legion's doctrine, buy using the same legion army list, but building the army in such a way that suits the Legions background (suggestions as to legion unit selection will be included in the supplement, but not army lists for specific legions). I am however considering adding sonic weapon equipped marines for Emperor's children, as one extra unit/option under the Legion doctrines section, as long as I can make it either fit in as balanced stats for free, or as an easy upgrade.

Good job on this, I was hoping someone would do so.

No other comments at this point, as I haven't been able to get hold out a copy of It yet.

It's just a cool sourcebook to own even if you don't intend to play a 40k army (or 30k as it were!)

I will be watching this one closely as i have always considered doing heresy era armies, it will be like going back to the Adeptus Titanicus days.

Update 2)
I have drafted the army rules and detachment sections, and added 1st round point values. Came out neat and tidy, thankfully. I'd post it up, but I have forgotten some of the specific unit names and have inserted placeholders. :spin

I'll do the unit stat entry on the weekend and review it, possibly post something up Sunday or Monday.

For my tuppence worth I have rebooted my account with the same thought about a legion army list.

I will keep posted with interest. However, I think that the support squads should be in there, just not as specific formations. ie. support squads, destroyer squads, seeker squads and (i forget their name) the boarding/siege squads should perhaps be upgrades to tactical and/or heavy weapon detatchments.

I was thinking tactical detachments could be 6 stands with an option to take up to 2 more (to represent the potentially larger tactical squads).

Then of those stands up to 2 of the stands (or maybe just the additional stands - so as not to interfere with the standard force structure) could be specialists. Support could be firefight 3+, destroyer could have firefight 4+ and macroweapon, seeker sould have sniper and maybe disrupt etc.

The other thing I thought was you could have specific dreadnought detatchments and artillery detatchment etc.

I pretty much have that structure but larger, allowing you to field sizeable tactical companies with support units as upgrades (legion tactical company is 8 units of bolter or assault weapon marines, option to upgrade +1-4 tactical stands, option to take upgrades to add 1-4 tactical support (flamers) or heavy support (missile launchers), other upgrades add 1-2 dreadnougjts/contemptors, 1-2 predators/vindicators, etc)

Larger formations of infantry thankfully suit the military structure presented in Heresy, because we don't have ATSKNF! The list is of course more closely related to the black legion list than the codex space marines list, thusly.

Dreadnought talons and predator strike forces are as support detachments as well as upgrades etc.
0-1 artillery tank squadrons are in!

Data entry for unit stats has begun in earnest, but i will post the army section in a little while so you can have a look.
