Stupid question alert and because I can't find it mentioned anywhere... I might just be looking in the wrong place!

When disembarking from a war engine (specifically in this case I'm thinking thunderhawks!), do you measure the 5cm (15cm for jump packs) from the center of the model or from its nearest point? and if it's the latter, does this not mean people with FW thunderhawks are at an advantage?

Lastly, is it 'entirely within 5cm' or 'part of their base within 5cm'?

Guess the same question goes for scooping up models, i.e. thunderhawk landing and pulling troops on board... do the models have to be entirely within 5cm? or is it any part of their bases laying within the 5cm?

It'll be an obvious answer... sorry I couldn't find it :)

I think this really falls within the 5 minute warm up process. In my world everything is based and therefore for any measurements I go base to base. The ability to move a few mm farther and get picked up possibly by a few extra mm is more than offset by FF and shooting based on how close a base edge is. If my opponents are unbased I usually advocate farthest edge or center of model as they prefer for counting on their models but really consistency for an army is more important IMO.

You can measure from any part of a model when disembarking. Yes this means bigger models get a bonus, but your opponent also measures to the model when shooting.

The completely within/part of the base within is a 5-min warmup item to address. We play completely within as it evens the strip base vs square base playing field.

Right, that makes sense... :) 5 min warm ups it is, I think I'd prefer measuring from the model itself despite the size differences in minis (like you say, swings and roundabouts.. makes it better for them embarking/disembarking but I'd be measuring to a larger model just as much etc.) - I think I'm going to make myself a little cardboard silhouette of a thunderhawk, made the mistake of fixing it to its flying stand so can't 'land' it... would make life easier measuring to and from too :)

Don't forget that, conversely, those with bigger models (eg FW vs GW thawks) will technically be at the disadvantage of it being easier for the enemy to be within FF range.

Like you say; swings and roundabouts...
