I'm getting a little confused as to how many rhinos a formation can have. Please help ![]() I get the idea that (when the option is included) they can have a rhino for every two bases. No extras just in case and no, say, taking 4 for a devastator formation to spread the bases out. What exactly happens when another upgrade gets added that has a transport capacity. Say for example a Blood Angel tactical formation that looks like this: TACTICAL DETACHMENT [600] 6 Tacticals, Rhinos, Chaplain, Blood Angels Vindicator, 3 Land Raider ![]() Tactical 1 by Brother Matus1, on Flickr I chose this using the ArmyForge force creator. Since the three raiders have the capacity to carry all the infantry, do they get no rhinos? Alternatively, are the Land Raiders attached as a tank, like the Vindicator, and the tacticals are just as welcome to turn up in their rhinos, with the empty Raiders driving along beside. If the second option is allowed are they allowed to deploy in the raiders, with the empty rhinos driving along beside. Similarly would this following formation be allowed three gunships to put the dreads in and three rhinos to carry the men? (I'm not saying you would want to...) TACTICAL DETACHMENT [775] 6 Tacticals, Librarian, 3 Vulcan Dreadnought, 3 Stormraven Gunship, Rhinos ![]() Tactical 2 by Brother Matus1, on Flickr These above examples seem legit to me, at least if the marines actually deploy in the rhinos and treat the Raiders as tanks. What then about Razorbacks. Does the following formation get rhinos and razorbacks, or just the Razorbacks? TACTICAL DETACHMENT [425] 6 Tacticals, Rhinos, 6 Razorback If it's just the Razorbacks, what about in this example? TACTICAL DETACHMENT [300] 6 Tacticals, Rhinos, Razorback 3 rhinos and 1 Razor, 2 Rhinos, 1 Razor and a base on foot or would you need to buy Razorbacks in pairs? Thanks in advance. |

taking alternate methods of transport will remove a corresponding amount of transport slots from the free rhinoes you get so a razorback, which can transport 1 stand, does not replace a rhino, but two will replace one rhino, and so on and so forth. |

In your first example, the Raiders would replace the Rhinos. In your second, I believe that would be acceptable. It's not really a situation the rules anticipated when designed, I suspect. Regarding Razorbacks, your first example would have no Rhinos, your second would have three, for the reasons Jaggedtoothgrin explained. |

There is a simple rule for Marines which is better thought of as adding transport to the formation rather than by replacing existing vehicles:- 1. Add any Land Raiders that have been purchased. 2. If there are any infantry without transport, add any Razorbacks that have been purchased. 3. If there are any infantry without transport, add sufficient Rhinos to carry the remainder. Note, while this may end up with one vacant transport slot, you may not add 'redundant' rhinos or other transport. "Simples" ![]() |
