Post subject: | Flak suppression |
Hi guys I have been wondering, can flak attacks be suppressed other than by being broken? My regular opponent seems to think they are not and thus can always fire at pasing aircraft unless the formation they are in is broken. For example if a unit of death guard defillers was at full str (4) and had 2 blast markers. Would all 4 fire or would just 2 of them fire. many thanks Chris |

Flak can be surpressed. Howeverm like small arms being eligable for supression inside of 15cm, all units with weapons in range of the flyer are eligable for supression, not just those with AA attacks. This is one reason organic AA is so effective; placing a Hydra in the middle of a Tank company creates an inherently more durable AA umbrella than a Hydra battery, often needing 5 or more BMs to supress instead of only 3. |

To expand on SG answer, a unit is eligible for suppression if it is in range and LoS of the target; it does *not* have to be capable of firing at the target. So for example, if the aircraft passed within 15 cm of an infantry unit with 'small arms' weaponry, that unit is eligible for suppression even though it does not have any AA capability. |

Hi guys, thanks for your answers so far. Rather than the flak suppressing the aircraft. I was asking about the flak being suppressed. Is it worked out like normal shooting. So in my example 4 death guard defillers with 2bm. Would all 4 fire at aircraft, or just 2 as 2 would be suppressed? many thanks Chris |

They were talking about flak units being suppressed, not the aircraft. In your example, assuming a formation of 4 AA defilers, only two defilers can shoot if they have 2 blastmarkers. However, if you have an AA defiler upgrade to a retinue formation (for example) all units in the fm can count for suppression (the marines, rhinos, etc.) if they have range and line of sight to the aircraft. They all have LoS to aircraft, so it's the range of their armament that is decisive here, whether it be AP, AT, AA, or just small arms (for firefight engagements). |
