Howdo. Now I've got zero experience with epic nids, and all my gaming experience with epic in general is so long ago its useless. I've downloaded v10 and epicuk tyranid lists and browsed through them. I'm trying to get my head round the rules again as well, so a lot to take in. I've got a few observations I would like to offer, and I'd also appreciate input from vets of using/ playing against Nids, and the game in general. I think I will try out the epicUK rules initially. One thing I firstly noticed about the rule book/pack was it was a bit basic looking and horrible font used on the cover. I know this isn't really relevant with a gaming experience, but I did think it was a bit lacking in design. However, I realise its likely someone's hard work (unpaid) so don't want to upset anyone. Just wanted to offer an opinion of someone viewing it for the first time. I find the script hard to read, and doesn't 'feel' right. I also find it annoying that the units are in alphabetical order. On one hand I can see the reasoning behind it. But on the other - when I was comparing like for like units (Termagaunts to Hormagaunts, Haruspex to Malefactor etc) I was having to flick pages. I think having the units in the standard format (infantry, vehicles, flyers, war engines) a neater layout. Now the rules side I can't really comment on as I haven't even received my models in the post yet. So just wanted to ask for your opinions. Why are there no transport units? I thought one of those 'tank' creatures used to be a transport? Whats the point of a Hive nest? Why is only the Ravager the only new unit (from more recent 40k lists) that I can see? Why do the Heirodule and bigger one lack any real firepower (like barrage weapons and the like. I could have swore epic40k had them closer to the power of reavers and warlords) - this i ask mainly due to actually buying the model being such a high price, that i can't see me having many. If it was more powerful I could then be happy with just one (at a much higher cost naturally) Malefactor v Haruspex. I can see that one has a firefight value, and 2 extra attacks. But as they are only 6+ in CC and normal attacks it would sound to me the macroweapon 5+ option is a better choice (remember I've not really any experience though) If one were also a transport i could see it offering more of a choice. Raveners 3+ MW attacks? That seems rather good. Although I cant help but link them to the 40k version, but it does mean they are as good in assault as a carnifex, and better than genestealers? I think I'll leave it there for now. Once again, I dont mean to offend - and may be completely wrong in my observations. But that's why I'm asking. |

Quote: Why is only the Ravager the only new unit (from more recent 40k lists) that I can see? The EUK list is a blend of old and new units. Thus no transport tanks, and a light peppering of new units, but also old units like Exocrines etc. Quote: Raveners 3+ MW attacks? That seems rather good. Although I cant help but link them to the 40k version, but it does mean they are as good in assault as a carnifex, and better than genestealers? Their ravener stats make little sense IMO. Raveners are supposed to be about as good at CC as Assault Marines, not twice as good and twice as strong. Though overall the list is good IMO, it has some odd patches. |

I couldn't wait, and ordered more nids on ebay. I'm too impatient and ordered a couple buy it now (so the astronomical prices) Really could do with some sprues appearing on ebay. Yeah I thought it was just me shocked at the ravener stats. I did like the proxy used though (the ripper swarm) although it looks a little large. |

Rippers are a good three times bigger than Epic Ravener models would be. Probably the closest thing that GW make that can be used as a proxy, though. |

How is the ripper compared to a trygon model? I've not got anything to compare yet. |

the hive nest allows you to garrison (normally non-scout tyranids aren't able to garrison due to them all being speed 20cm, any formation containing a unit with 0cm move can garrison) |

I cant find garrisoning in the rule book (Epic Armageddon) looked in the index too. Can you direct me to the rules? |

Just wanted to offer an opinion of someone viewing it for the first time. Gotta agree there. The aesthetics are perfunctory. But the real value lies in the rules and the amount of thought and playtesting that's gone into them. There's a lot balance and consistency. And the Epic UK site is a valuable resource chock full of data on armies and players. I'd like to offer Epic UK a blitz of the Epic UK branding, and have toyed with it a few times. Here's a rough mock up of a logo I did a month back... ![]() But it's a major undertaking I don't have the time and energy for presently. One day. In the meantime they're still delivering their high-quality lists on schedule and overseeing a growing tournament scene. |

I think that the bigger critters aren't loaded down with firepower to emphasise the 'swarming assault' nature of the list, MikeT on here is a bit of a dab hand with the nids and he tends to avoid the big stuff (barring a harridan or two) and uses endless swarms..... I've not come close to beating him yet (not saying much TBH....) |

Are you still the EUK committe's public relations man curis? IMO the EUK nid list is the most balanced one out there right now, even if some stats are odd. |

On Malefactors vs Haruspex. FF is generally a better ability than CC because of range. It is quite easy to stay out of 25 cm range, denying the Haruspex those MW attacks, but much harder to stay out of 40 cm, which is the effective Engagement range of Malefactors. Also, those 3 FF attacks used to drive my opponents insane. The probability of scoring two or more hits is quite high, making it a real asset in an Engagement-oriented army. /Fredmans |
