Post subject:  support eligibility and multiple rounds of assault

Had this one pop-up awhile back and forget to post it:

Lictors engage Sentinels, all the sentinels within 15cm of the lictors die, support kills a lictor and we go to round two.

Even after countercharges nothing is within 15cm of each other. Does the support get to support fire on:

1) Anything that rolled a CC or FF die on round 1 or 2, and that's within 15cm and LoS (so the remaining lictors)
2) Anything that rolled a CC or FF die on round 2 only, and that's within 15cm and LoS (so no support as the Lictors didn't FF or CC in round 2)

Support fire in each round can only be used against the units physically engaged in the assault. Effectively only against those units that threw a dice in each round.
Note, some or all of the opposing units could die as a result of the assault (eg all the sentinels in round one) in which case the support fire has nothing to shoot at.

#2.

Support fire determination has to be determined new each round. Obviously, you wouldn't "carry over" the ability to target a unit if the unit countercharged out of range or LoS. Similarly, if all the units in support range were killed, there would be no additional support. In this case, it's a bit more wonky because the targets are still present and nominally in range/LoS, but they are ineligible for other reasons. No units fit the definition of "directly involved" during the second round of combat, so none are eligible as targets for support fire. 1.12.6, emphasis added:

Quote:
Calling on support allows units
from other formations to attack with
their firefight value if they are within
15cm and have a line of fire to an
enemy unit directly involved in the
assault. In this case ‘directly involved’
means belonging to the attacking or
defending formation(s) and in a
position to attack.

And from the FAQ:
Quote:
Q: In a game we have an Assault that
results in a tie. Consequently we must
fight another round of combat. Both
sides do their counter-charge move
but at the end of the move neither
formation has any units within 15cm
of an enemy unit. Do we resolve this
round of combat (even though no
casualties could be caused) or is the
Assault consider over because there
are no units within 15cm of an enemy
unit?
A: You would need to resolve the new
Assault round, even though no actual
fighting took place. So work out the results
as per 1.12.7 and don't forget to include
the casualties from the first round of the
Assault when determining the winner of
this second round.

So... counter charges, no attacks or support, reroll resolution (which should be unchanged).

IIRC I think that's how we did it. I was just proud my sentinels lasted multiple rounds against lictors :P
