Post subject:  [Youngblood] The Newest Space Marine Commander
Well, I got in my first game of EPIC:A in the new year... and I had to resort to fighting a child to do it! *laugh*

No, not my 11-month old son, he's more of a Chaos Spawn, but with Drek's eight-year-old son, Dillon. I'd run a 1500 point demo/intro game for him and he was itching to take me on in a "real" game, so we decided to play the Tournament Scenario at 2000 points and Christmas break let him stay up late enough to play! He dutifully put together his army and got ready to face some Orks!

We played the entire Tournament Scenario, placing objectives, holding reserves, garrisons, and deployment, with Dillon rapidly picking up the nuances and intricacies of play.

Marines came surging out of the gate, hammering the Orks, and setting things up for an excellent start of turn 2...

And then Lord Dillon experienced a bitter lesson for a Commander so young, but one many Marine leaders have had to take to heart: Terminators teleported into a perfect position, getting a single Blast marker... and then losing the Strategy Roll! I almost had to apologize for what I did next, but Orks don't apologize and Dillon took it like a Marine!

In the end the Orks took the game in turn 3, 3-0, but it was closer than it looked...

All in all, a great first showing for the newest, and maybe youngest, EPIC:A player!

His two lessons learned:

1) "Don't focus on one goal so much..." - the Supa-Stompa, at 1DC, was all that was left of the Ork BTS target for all of turn 3... so tempting... so elusive!

2) "Set more traps for the enemy..." - that's the trick, isn't it!


Thanks for the great game Dillon and I look forward to our next match-up... now you just gotta get your dad to play more! *LAUGH*
