Hey all,

I've read and (re-read) the rules for troop transports and understand loading and unloading and how to assault with them, but after you win an assault can you use your consolidate to move back into your transports, and then move the transports? I'm thinking of my eldar with this, since we get the extra consolidate move. Or can I only move the the full 15cm with the infantry after the assault and just keep the transports near by?

Also, when loaded transports take fire and your left with infantry units with no room in the remaining transports to carry them, does this slow down the whole formation? or is their some way to abandon the sorry souls?

You can reload (5cm) and consolidate the full 35cm distance on the transports, though as a single move you may not then unload again.

Having infantry without transport does effectively slow the formation to the speed of the infantry. The remaining transports can still move theire full move but must end their move in coherency, unless the infantry is to be abandoned. So yes, you may abandon the infantry by choosing not to keep them in coherency, but as destroyed units you gain a BM for each unit left behind in this way.

There is no 5cm "reload" distance.

You load up in a consolidation move the same way as a normal move. The transport vehicle moves over the stand to be loaded and then continues on. The infantry are not allowed to move prior to loading. If the infantry are in difficult terrain for the vehicle, it has to make a check to move in and pick them up. If the infantry are in impassable terrain for the vehicle, it's impossible.

1.7.4 explains the effects for dropping a unit out of coherency.

Huh. I guess I've been playing that wrong.

Just one note of caution:-
The question and answer relate to ground transport; Aspects in Wave Serpents for example, which can win an assault and have the Wave Serpents consolidate 35cm (embarking the infantry on the way).

However, if you consolidate back into an air-transport (eg Eldar Vampire) it cannot disengage in the end phase as consolidation is deemed to take place during the end-phase.

And if you consolidate back into a WE, that uses the WE transport rules - loading units move to the WE, the WE cannot then move. So, it's a bit backwards from the organic transport process.
