Just saw some pics of the annual Apocalypse Battle at a GW store in Victoria. It looks like they took a bunch of models (albeit very well painted ones) and dumped them on the table (talk about parking lot wargaming >:( ). It looked more like a very disorganized yard sale then a wargame. It is really too bad they have turned their back on Epic because it reflects massed combat alot better then the "new" Apocalypse Rules. But, then again they get to charge ridiculous prices for the larger scale models. ::)

you're preaching to the choir here.

but apocalpyse isn't meant to represent a huge battle realistically. It's just meant to be a completely over the top game where everybody fields everything they have.

We're talking the climatic assualt at the end of a sci-fi film, not the gripping drama over the course of a war film. Each has their place.

"you're preaching to the choir here."

Yeah, I know, but I still had to say something.

"...apocalpyse isn't meant to represent a huge battle realistically."

Seriously, the table was PACKED to the point of stupidity.

"Each has their place."

Yep, Epic on the table being played. Apoc in the dust bin waiting for pick up. ;)

It is what it is, a vehicle for GW to sell lots and lots of expensive plastic kits...and it does it really well.

They really need to work on their stacking rules.

<<< Choir.

That's Apocalypse using the 'Twister' rule set.

Are you talking about Warhammer 40k: Jenga?

Nice. Yeah, it looks like a Jenga endgame.

... or a Dog's Breakfast.

I just dont understand what people get from this, I realy dont.

I follow some of the guy's on the Waaagh with there modeling threads and it is fantastic the amount of effort put into producing some of the scratch builds. They truly can be like great big agressive works of art, but the game seems a pointless waste of time and carring effort !!

I don't see the attraction of Apocalypse either, but a lot of us probably grew up with Epic when it was still a core game, so this probably influences our thinking somewhat. I wouldn't mind betting that a lot of people who play Apocalypse have never played Epic, so simply have nothing to compare it to.

As far as I'm concerned, you spend the entire game setting up, and then packing everything away, and there's so little room for manoeuvre that tactics become almost non-existent. Still, if others like it, who are we to deny them their pleasure :) . I would, however, be interested to know how many Apocalypse players who've never played Epic felt it was still good after having played several games of Epic.
