Hey All!

Been loving the forum and thought I'd try a post. Some friends and I reecntly came by a grab bag of bits that just so happened to include a few nearly complete epic armies, so we've decided to try a campaign...as soon as we finish our BFG campaign.

Out of the bits I ended up with the eldar (dont tell my parents, it'll kill my mohter). I've got about a dozen games under my belt and am really liking them. I'm playing against space marines, I-guard, orks and sometimes a titan legion.

I'm using what we found in the grab bag, but am wanting to invest in stuff the army lacks but wanted opinions on what to focus on / what to avoid. If I was lazy I'd just run almost all guardian hosts in serpents with some falcons and a space ship fly by...so far thats been doing pretty well.

What I have:
-endless guardians stands (including 12 grav guns [scatter and D-gun], 6 wraith lords, 8 wraith guard)
-35+ wave serpents (15 I converted into flacons)
-8 swooping hawk stands
-5 ranger stands
-1 bike troop (3 bike 3 vyoer)
-1 full bike troop / shining spears
-2 of the smaller titans...cant remember the name...too lazy to open a new window and look it up

First off why is the scatter lazer even an option for gurdian hosts? I'm new but looking at the rules and my dozen or so games, it seems like I'm just giving up the macro ability for the same points if I bring them instead of D-canons.

Obviuosly I'm missing flyers and anti-air. So far in our group of new players I'm the only one who has experimented with flyers (using BFG eldar escorts), but no one else has caught on yet so I havent played with much anti air....dont I need to be more competative? are anti-air units any good against non-air? Also, what air units are better? I've used the fighters so far and really like them just for being able to get at things that are trying to hide, but I realize they all do that so...whats the word on whats best?

I've also noticed that between bikes / gurdians with transports, rapid assualts are the name of the game for doing the serious damage. Is this an eldar thing or should I buy shootier stuff? I've played with some proxy fire prisims and didn't LOVE them, but it was nice. Also I really wanna hear anyones opinion on BP shooters. The troupe of 3 you can get didn't blow me away glancing at the BP chart, but I havent used it much and want some input

Please help a young exarch gather the host!

The heavy weapons (scatter lasers) are free replacements of guardian stands. Useful to add a little bit of shooting to the guardian host.
The support weapons (D-cannon) are additions to the host, and costs points. They have a better weapon, and also adds numbers, which is nice in itself.

The air unit rules in epic are much to good to not use. It's fun, and it works as it should :) If you achieve air superiority, you'll turn minor enemy setbacks into full-scale routs.

Firestorms are nice, and works well enough even if the enemy has no aircraft.

Eldar fighters are indeed very good. Personally, I like the Vampires too, for airmobile assaults.

That sounds like you're doing eldar right :)

You can, but you don't need to. Eldar can play very well as a shooty, sneaky force with pop-up skimmers and double moves, but rapid assault is a good style too.

It's nice enough for prep fire, but nothing spectacular - three Armour 5+ AVs is just too fragile. The Voidspinner, on the other hand, is nasty - better range and greater resiliency for a small increase in cost.

Certainly, and welcome to Epic!
