I spoke to friend who owns a gaming store yesterday about the new GW fine Cast (or whatever it is called) line and it started me thinking about the possible impact it would have on SG game lines. Since GW is going to be getting away from metal mini production entirely where does this leave games like Epic, as the majority of the minis for these games are metal? I don't see GW taking the time and money to bring over product lines that "directly compete" against WH40K and WHF to the new resin production method. Could this be the final coffin nail for the SG lines?

Just looking for opinions, I'm not trying to be yet another alarmist.

Sooner or later, I think the SG lines will be withdrawn.

I'd imagine the outlook is likely to be more positive for games like blood bowl, necromunda and mordheim, which could be converted to Finecast, but games like Epic and Warmaster will probably be silently removed from the site one day.

I wouldn't at all be surprised to see lines disappear as they sell out of what's in stock.

I agree, although I don't think it is going to happen imminently, maybe over the next 2-3 years or so....

rumour has it that they recalled most of their metal miniatures before the finecast launch to melt down for SG stuff, then when it runs out, it's gone

This is one of the reasons I am currently panic-buying as much Eldar stuff as I can get my hands on... ;)

More and More I'm running out of things that I "Need" to buy from GW. There so many great Animal Proxy's that are better. And then Company's like EW pick any slack.

I agree in general, there are loads of orks and marines floating around on ebay, much more supply than demand, exodus wars and others produce loads of awesome stuff usable for guard, necrons and tau, and various creatures make excellent stuff too. the only main army not getting a lot of love is Eldar....

I can guarantee that if Grandma Wendy pulled the plug, the Animals would set about producing Star Elves pretty quickly.

Someone needs to poke Semaj, that's all I have to say. Eldar are a hard army to model, given the lack of flat surfaces and profusion of compound curves.

GW have already stated that none of the SG range will be produced in finecast resin. They will stay metal. They simply don't make enough money for GW to really bother doing anything with, but enough people still play them that there is no real danger of them fully removing any of them anytime soon. they do still bring in SOME money, and for any business, all profit is good profit ^^
Only the primary 3 ranges will become Finecast, and they hope to have that all done by end of 2013. That said, it looks like metal isn't going away completely; just look at the *new* necron range that still includes the hybrid heavy destroyers and destroyer lord.

Have no fear, Epic is here :)

and we can trust GW not to lie or randomly screw us, because they've done it so many times in the past they must be tired of it by now...

Some people think Specialist Games fans are pessimists. We're not, we're realists. :) I suspect they will go eventually too, but I'm quite sure there will be no warning when it happenes
