Post subject:  Crossfire Question

Is it possible for a air unit to get crossfire from another unit on the ground?

This came up in a game last night between my Eldar and my buddy's IG, with his thunderbolts strafing my Cobras that were within 30cm of his Baneblades. I gave it to him, but was a little skeptical about this.

Nope, aircraft can't count for crossfire, they're specifically excluded.

Here is the relevant paragraph from the rules

Quote:
4.1.1 Aerospace Formations
Aerospace units are organised into formations just like
any other unit. However, although aerospace formations
do receive Blast markers, they cannot be broken or
suppressed. In addition, they can’t be assaulted, lend
support to an assault or be used by another formation to
claim a crossfire, etc, while in the air. Once landed, an
aerospace unit may be assaulted and be used in a
crossfire, and is affected by Blast markers normally.

strictly speaking, the rule simply says that an aircraft cannot provide the crossfire bonus to another unit. it doesnt say they cannot claim crossfire from another formation...

Here is the FAQ that covers it all, should have gone there first!

Quote:
4.1.1 Aerospace Formations
Q: Can you draw a Crossfire to or from
an Aerospace formation?
A: Yes and No. An Aerospace formation in
flight cannot claim a Crossfire bonus (see
section 4.2.2) and it cannot be used by
another formation to generate a Crossfire
bonus (see section 4.1.1). But an
Aerospace formation that was landed could
both claim the Crossfire bonus and also be
used by other formations to generate the
Crossfire bonus.
