Hi guys, Was just wondering if anyone knew whether there was an additional tax payable when buying items from Canada (I am based in the UK). Thanks Bob |

I assume - and this is only an assumption - that you will not need to pay any additional sales tax on the Canadian purchase. However, on arrival into the UK, it will be liable for import tax if the quoted value is £18 or greater (and I think that now the postage cost is included, although it didn't used to). Also, be aware that Parcel Force are crooks with import tax, and if the parcel is charged by UK customs, Parcel Force will charge twice for the pleasure for absolutely no legitimate reason. |

Not sure about Canada to UK, but I don't think I paid any extra tax on my last shippment from FW. As stated above I think the only extra tax/tariff would be UK based. |

As Cybershadow said, you only pay when it goes over a certain value threshold, and then only if customs catches it. For items coming into Canada, for instance, anything over $20 is liable for our standard tax (13%), but in practice, I only pay on 1 purchase out of 20 or more. In general, I think the larger the assessed value, the more likely you are to pay. |

That only applies if you use standard post. if you use UPS or another courier, I have always paid the full tax plus their "standard handling charge" which is often another 20% or so. I ordered magnets from the US one time and ended up paying something like 35% in extra fees when I had it shipped with UPS instead of the USPS. As a result, I always use standard post, even if I have to wait longer for it. |

Yeah, I seem to remember someone telling me not to use a courier, because you'll get nailed by a whole truck load of extra fees. |
