I have been thinking of getting in to Epic lately and I would be delighted if I could get some things cleared up. Regarding infantry, how many stands make up a unit? I'm currently mailing with the guy behind Custom Minis about commissioning some Chem dog infantry and I need to better grasp the unit size to know if it's gonna be economical viable. How does the Savlar Chem dog army list varies from the standard IG list? I have Chem dogs in 40k so I was thrilled to see they had their own army list ![]() Thanks! -Skorpor |

A unit is composed of one stand of infantry or vehicle. Thus a Chem-Dog Company (15 stands plus command, IIRC) would be composed of 80 individual figures. The Savlar list (as published in Fanatic #95) varies in several ways from the Steel Legion List. The most obvious is it is an all infantry army. There are no mechanized, tank, or artillery companies. However they get companies of 15 stands plus command instead of 12 plus Command, to they are more numerous. They also have acces to the Chem Rider Company, a 16 unit Rough Rider company that replaces Scout With Reinforced Armor. Their Infantry Platoon is slightly undercosted, IMO, at 5 for 75pt (6 for 100pt being standard), but only by a couple points a stand. They also have the ability to take 1-4 Ogryns @25pt ea instead of 2 at 50. They get a small Armored Fist Platoon of three squads (six stands) in Chimaeras, a Chem-Rider Scout Platoon of six that have both RA and Scout, and a 0-1 Stormtrooper analouge, the Hardened Criminals. Hardened Criminals have slightly worse armor than Stormtroopers (6+) but have "Dirty Tricks" which are EA+1, Ignore Cover in CC and FF. No option to transport them. The 5 unit Tank Platoon can take Leman Russ, Demolishers, or Exterminators. There are no Superheavies in this army. No Titan Support, but T-Bolts and Marauders as standard. It's actually a really good list for those who want an infantry based IG army, and has no significant price problems I can see. The one thing I do see is that it may be hard to deal with War Engines due to there being no TK weapons, and no MW aside from the Commissar and Supreme Commander assault weapons. IG without Shadowswords are not well off against Titans. |

Thanks for the quick answer! Sounds good, I'm an infantry man at heart ![]() Regarding rules, Which rulebook is the one I should get? Is the one GW sells still up to date or has the community made their own book? And is there anything else I should know before I jump in? |

The download from the GW site is the most up to date version. I think the hardcopy book is now printed from the same file, but am not sure. The differences are pretty slight in any case. |

There is a Savlar Chem-dog list in my copy of the 2010 compendium draft, with some small and some large differences (mostly company size). Which one will appear in the 2012 compendium? |

At this point I haven't been instructed to include it Ulrik. I think it's one of those lists that has foundered - either no Sub-Army champ moving it along or just no one playing it in general. It may also be that folks feel you can just do something similar with a SL list (don't quote me though as I've not looked at the list). |

Damn, I like the look of the Savlar - it's a proper infantry list, not a siege list or a mechanized infantry list. Definetly worth to include IMO. If I had an IG army I would have volunteered... |

Fanatic doen't list an author. When Skorpor mentioned it on Warseer, I had to look it up, so it's not been active for a couple years at the very least. |

Another question, what's the dimensions on a imperial guard infantry model? Commission guy needs some measurements to work with ![]() |

It's 6mm scale. Ogryns are about 10mm tall, though. Bases are usually 5 models on a 20mm x 20mm or 40mm x 12mm base, though dimensions can vary somewhat. Man of Kent and Vaaish both do commision work; they might be able to give info on going rates. |

I had asked to have the Chem-Dog list taken out of the compendium because I hadn't had time to test it (I didn't really think it deserved to be in there with less than a dozen games). If anyone's interested in a copy I can send them the latest. |
