Post subject:  Orbital Bombardment and Extra templates?

Hi guys,

I have been looking through the Imperial Guard list, and that spurred me on to think about the spacecraft in Epic.

Say I hvae taken the Emperor class Battleship which has an 8BP orbital bombardment. Do I get the two extra templates? Does that mean I get 3! of the massive templates? Does the extra blast marker apply to all the formations hit?

Seems like a huge blast zone. My group plays with the rules in the published rulebook rather than anythign else, so a page number would be good.

I'm pretty certain you do - otherwise it would make no sense for the bigger ships with high BPs to cost more.

Remember you need to pre-plot where the spaceship will strike before any models are placed on the table for the battle, so it rewards good predictive ability of yourself (and your opponent to guess where and avoid it) and risks a huge deadly template smashing down and wrecking just a building or woods, while the enemy are elsewhere.

Sure the predictive thing reduces its power a bit, but given how small / cramped the deployment zones seem in epic I think 3 big templates anywhere would be bound to hit something!

I might take a longer look at some of them now!

The problem is that the Emperor is Slow and Steady, so can't turn up and drop those 3 juicy templates until at least turn 3, when there's no guarantee there'll be anything in the deployment zone, especially since spacecraft aren't a secret.

of course, since a spaceship cannot sustain, anything you get under those templates will at best, be hit half the time
combine that with the unreliability of having to predict your opponents moves 3 turns in advance, and they dont do nearly as much damage as you'd like.

it is good for clearing out the opponents blitz before drop-podding in some marines to claim it though

The Eldar Dragon ship is pretty tasty tho. No slow and steady, so come in turn one and drop two(!) of the massive templates on someones deployment zone.

I know that the prevailing view is against the spacecraft (apart from for marine drops) and I had always just gone along with it. I think I'll take a closer look now tho :D

I've had some fun with the Necron Scythe Class Harvester. 4BP MW and 2x TK shots... nice :)
And it can come on 1st turn!
350pts is a lot but it really messes with the opponents head!

yeah, the faster space ships are kinda neat, but the really big guns are on the slow and steady ships, which dont do a whole lot (hmm, perhaps they need a "steady" part of the rule to make up for the "slow" part. perhaps let them sustain like ground artillery can!)

I'd like to try adjusting Slow and Study to be able to choose to come on on the second turn but only have a 5+ chance of turning up then, otherwise as normal turn after.
