Post subject: | Really stupid question |
Hey guys I have a dumb question. Where is the best place online to get epic scale miniatures (ie: vehicles and ships)? Some of you may know that I manufacture scenery items (buildings, landing pads, fortress walls, etc.) and I really want to photograph my products with some ground vehicles and ships. I think it would be a lot easier for customers to get a good idea of the size of my products if they were shot with pieces they recognize. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

GW of course. Forgeworld is often cheaper than GW at this point, but has a fairly limited selection. Exodus Wars Is specifically designed to be compatible with Epic, and in widespread use as well. It's also a hell of a lot less expensive than GW. What do you mean by ships? Naval Vessels or Starships? Old Crow is the only supplier of 6mm Sci-Fi Naval Vessels I'm currently aware of. Spartan Games Firestorm Armada is probably the most popular starship combat game right now. |

I'm a 285th scale modern military gamer ... that's were my knowledge ends. ...But I'm learning as I go along. Your suggestion of Forgeworld is perfect, they seem to have exactly what I'm looking for. The ships like "AERONAUTICA IMPERIALIS VULTURE" and "AERONAUTICA IMPERIALIS LIGHTNING ATTACK FIGHTERS" look like what I was thinking. I'll be curious to see how well they fit on my landing pads. |

ebay is also somewhere to look, though it can get expensive alternately, a forum member such as myself could send you a couple of the old GW plastic tanks in exchange for, i dunno, free postage on an order or something of the like XD ~Kim |

Onyx wrote: There's also Dark Realm Miniatures aswell. Thanks. Their stuff looks cool. Another question. I'm wondering about the base as pictured in the photo below ... is there a standard size for these bases? Does anyone know what size this one might be? It's odd that these companies (ForgeWorld, Dark Realm, etc) do not ever say now big the pieces are. I always try to give dimensions on my site for as many things as possible. |

That is something Dom is working on fixing for our website, after feedback from TheMiniaturesPage. Certainly all miniatures from hence forth will have listed dimensions. |

looking at the pic, I'd guess it's been mounted on a 1p or a 2p coin. 2p is functionally identical to a 26mm base (ie the standard GW base). I've always assumed that's what they used back in the day. Same with the blast template = CD. 1p is somewhat smaller. wikipedia might have the sizes. |

1p coin is 20.32 mm 2p coin is 25.9 mm So they match GW base sizes pretty much. If you're planning on using a magnetized case (like I do), it's worth bearing in mind that not all Sterling coins are made of a ferro-magnetic material. |

Sounds like a perfectly sensible question to me. I have no experience of ships but if you’re after an aeroplane for scale I would specifically recommend a Forge World Epic Valkyrie rather than a Lightning or Vulture as it’s an aeroplane/skimmer that a lot of wargamers will be familiar with, since there’s a 28mm plastic version of it now too. A GW infantry stand of any kind on a rectangular epic base would be the best in photos as scale too, as at least all epic players would be familiar with the size of them. If you like I could pop a spare infantry stand in the post to you? I have so many I wouldn't miss one. |

Pennies are also useful. Include a vehicle, some infantry, and a penny, and it's hard NOT to get the idea. |

Coins are specific to countries though, I don't have a clue how big US or Canadian $ are. White dice of the standard size sold by GW are recognisable everywhere. |

The British, American, and Canadian pennies are all within a millimeter of each other in diameter. |
