Post subject:  Epic Basics

First of all I´d like to introduce myself.
I´m Adrian from Spain (hence the bad grammar) and I´m an EPIC new fan. So HELLO to everybody!

The problem here is that I already own a 6.000 points Tyranid army and 3.000 points Necron Army. Both for 40k. I´d like to turn them into 6mm EPIC goodness and start playing this great game.

I´ve recently discovered the game, this forum and the incredible stuff you are doing.

How can I start to build my 2 armies to play EPIC?

Please help me to create an Epic gaming comunity in my area.

Thanks a lot,
Adrian

Well, Epic Necrons involve proxies, for better or worse (there is one Epic unit that can pass as a Necron. It is rare and OOP). As do Tyranids, more often than not (Nids are also OOP).

For Necrons, many people use Dark Realm Miniatures' Andrayadas (see here), and Plasmablast Games' Orbital Combine War Synthetics (see here) can also work well.

For Tyranids, many use DRM's Skryth (see here). Epic Tyranids sometimes show up on ebay, but they're often expensive.

If you want to build a community, you'll likely need more armies than you currently have. Space Marines and Eldar are fairly easy to come by, since both were produced for several editions. I'd recommend watching ebay and picking some up. You can build a company or three of Space Marines (they're common as dirt, seriously) and a decent Eldar force without too much trouble. That would give you up to five different armies to play (assuming you use some Space Marines to make a Chaos force). Make sure to grab a cheap Titan or two, as well - people like Titans. Smaller Titans, like the Reaver and Warhound, are probably best. People here can give you advice on what's a fair price and what's a good purchase.

Reading the rules over and asking questions on the forum will also help, obviously. :) Familiarize yourself a bit with the various lists before you make any purchases - maybe play a practice game or two with a friend. Or just ask for some advice on good starter lists here, and use those to learn.

If you want to reproduce your 40K armies for the Nids and the Necrons, that's easy enough to do. What do you have of each?

For crons, the Exodus wars edenites have hands down beat out any other proxy. They end up looking like perfect little necrons with the right paint. There are several proxies around for the rest of the cron equipment if you look hard enough and ask around.

Nids will probably take far longer to collect. I'm still slowly acquiring everything. They show up pretty regularly on ebay if you want to pay.

For Necrons, Exodus Wars Edenite Infantry works great (here) Riflemen, Heavy Infantry, Assault Infantry, Assault Sergeants and Infiltration Infantry are perfect (pics of everything but Inf Inf, they're only available as parts, not in discounted blisters). If you have a look around these forums you can find some conversions people have made for some of the vehicles and war engines.

We have a Necron army in my group, made of Exodus Wars Edenite Infantry and artifacts from the forge of an aquatic mammal, so I would recommend those sources.

For Tyranids try eBay or Skyth from Dark Realm Miniatures (I have hundreds of their Pax Arcadia minis), I have some Tyrants and a Harridan to spare if you are interested.

Where are you from?

Thanks a lot for your kind words and advice.

I´ve searched for images on the forum and have a better idea how to handle the 2 projects.

For Necrons:
I´ll start ordering those from Exodus Wars which are perfect for Necron Lord, Warriors, Immortals and Pariahs.

For Tyranids:
No Idea. If anybody have the urge to sell his tyranid army cheap please contact me.

Lord Bruno: which page is what you mention? Aquatic scenery or what?

Thanks again, keep the advices coming please.

The ebay route for Tyranids should not be too difficult. That stuff pops up rather frequently. Just don't pay too much for a dominatrix. I think they're the most common 'nid mini out there!

For tyranids the infantry is very expensive (plastic) so I'd get the DRM Skyth for most of those. The metals appear on ebay quite frequently but you have to bid to get a good deal (the buy it now prices are too high). There are two type of Tyrants and Fexes, you generally want the small ones. The metals aren't cheap but are generally reasonable (Dominatrixes should be dirt cheap though as you only really need one), the exceptions being the Bio-Titans and Harridans which can cost quite a lot.

Just want to mention that edenite Infiltration Infantry works fine for Flayed Ones.

I thought I saw some Texan Aquatics (TM) Destroyers painted up somewhere on the boards...

I'll look around.

edit: I take it back. They're Scarabs with EW Infantry on top.
