A couple pics of the clashing armies in this month's EPIC Epic battle, 27,250 points each side. Yme-loc Eldar (nearly 90 falcons) vs Vanilla Imperial Guard. 12' x 16 ' surface.

I'm the commmander of the Imperial Guard forces and I would like to state catagorically that we did not know about the container of mixed nuts magically appearing in the photos. Once again those sneaky Eldar pulled some PHB, space elve, fancy, dancy, swishy crap and snuck that container of mixed nuts into the picture. Well, loyal citizens of the Imperium, do not fear. I shall extract my revenge as I toss the aforementioned mixed nuts at the Eldar forces with appropriate artillery like sounds. It will be aglorious battle, though. Turn 1 has started. The Eldar began the fun and festivities by winning initiative for the turn (no surprise). Lsrwolf started with his Dragonship, hoping to catch a packed Imperial deployment zone. He did. Caught three formations, Leman Russ Company, Basilisk artillery company and a Hydra flak platoon. He destroyed one Leman Russ, one Hydra (breaking the formation), and one Basilisk, fire support stand, and ratling each from the Basilisk company (I include support units in my artillery companies to protect against planet falling Vampires and teleporting Swooping Hawks). Accompanying the orbital strike were three planet falling Vampires with three Howling Banshees/three Warp Spiders each. One came down in a perfect position to assault onto one of my forward objectives. One other came down in position after some violent evasive manuevering (multiple scout zocs all over the place) in position to assault my Manticore artillery company. The last one came down on the other deployment edge (we went with corners deployment) threatening my BTS unit. His second activation was the Vampire and assault units sitting in front of the Manticore artillery company. Because of being interspersed and scout zocs he had to/chose to bring into the assault a rough rider unit and a Hydra flak platoon as well as the Manticore artillery company. After the assault and supporting fire I had lost two Manticores, a ratling sniper and three rough riders. He had lost three Howling Banshees, one warp spider, and the Vampire. I had some heavy duty support fire in the form of two Warhounds. The assault resolution saw me with a +3 and the last two Warp Spiders were run down. He is going to push, so has another activation yet, but we had to stop as it was 1AM in the mornig. I said it once and I will say it again. It will be a glorious battle. Regards |

Scaling- We tripled the deployment depth to 45cm and added one turn to the victory determination (turn 4). Deployment pics attached. This covers the initial deployment of forces. Mostly marching in Turn 1 with some long range fire onto the IG garrisons all on overwatch. A turn one comittment to destroying the DeathStrikes and silencing the grand Manticore and Basilisk batteries by the Eldar orbital and planetstriking Vampires.

end of Turn 1 Part 3 Not seen in these pics, 3 x Vampires loaded with 4 x Warp Spiders and 4x Banshees Planetfell to engage the Manticore Grand battery and, IGO#1. a couple of eact aspect survive the IGO1 assault, but all others are destroyed.

end of Turn 1 Part 4 Eldar Casualties Heavy Air power committed to neutralizing/delaying IG artillery Orbital bombardment on target reasonably effective IG lost 4 Manticores, a couple Basilisks, Deathstrikes and one broken garrison infantry company, a couple broken Flack fms in back field
