Hi, I'm new to this forum and new to E:A, though not to epic gaming in general.... I had large ork and imperial guard armies back in 2nd edition but e40k coincided with me going away to uni and I lost interest and gave my stuff to a kid down the street....

I've always loved epic scale gaming and I've just purchased a big lot of Imperial guard. Now there is a risk that GW may reduce the SG range even further with thd migration to resin, I want to do an 'end of line purchase' and get my armies up to speed quickly, which is where I need help from the experts on here.....

I am looking to get 'complete' IG, Marine, Ork and Eldar armies and I would appreciate help in compiling my shopping lists....

oh one other question, can feral orks be taken in a standard ork army? the steam gargant is my favourite ork model!

What do you mean by complete?

Feral Orks have their own list, and you can't use the unit entries from that list in the standard list. But you can use the Feral Ork models as proxies for units in the standard list.

by complete, I mean around 4000 points with a nice spread of units and enough variety to tailor lists.....

how are the Feral Orks in comparison to the normal orks?

Depending on budget-

SM
2 battle companies - will give you enough marines for several tactical, devastator+assault formations
character pack
scouts - gives you 2 scout formations
terminators - 2 terminator formations
bikes
2 land speeders
2 rhinos - will give you 12 rhinos enough for moast builds
whirlwinds+hunter
razorbacks - essential for beefing tac, dev +scout formations, perhaps even 2 packs
predators
2 thunderhawks (also available from FW)
2 warhounds

That would give you most essentials then its just bonus items - landing craft, strike cruiser, land raiders

Eldar are probably a bit more difficult with multiple distinct builds - aspect air assault, wraith guardians, storm serpent. Mech etc

To cover all those

2 warhosts (2 will do 4 will give you a formation of each aspect)
2 falcons
2 firestorms
Support weapons
2 void spinners
2 storm serpents
Scorpion
Vypers
Night spinners
Fire prisms
2 vampires (also from FW)

Just a note to add to the IG list, you can still get shadowswords and chimeras (search 'sg-epc') from FW, cheaper and better quality than core GW range.

also when you give a multiple of something, I assume you mean a formation, so 2 hydras = 6 actual models, but 2 shadowswords = 2 actual models, correct?

yeah I assumed that, thanks again!

edit: now is there someone who can help me out with orks/ferals? I'm not sure the feral list has enough variety to keep it interesting in the long term, it would be nice to have as a variant option, but seems that multiple steam gargants and orkeosauruses are essential and they ain't cheap!

I really appreciate the advice given out so far :)

What's expensive for the ferals is the infantry! But for orks in general, eBay generally has a wide selection of old plastic models. I actually like the old gunwagonz that came with Titan Legions, and then Epic 40,000 came out with similar, but more varied, plastic variants. You can them by the bucketload. Unlike the original battlewagonz, they look good. Keep in mind the old plastic bikes are identical to the new metal ones. eBay also has current-style great gargants for cheap. Even the old plastic mega gargants are cheaper than a new metal one. No steam gargants though. If you like the model, get one and use it as a normal or great gargant in the standard list.

*edit* There's a good feral orks thread in the EA Strategy & Tactics forum.

By the way, I can't imagine that you'd need two Space Marine infantry boxes. Personally I'd get a second whirlwind blister instead (so you can have four whirlwinds and four hunters).
