Just reading this thread: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=294157 is quite an eye opener. I'm suprised that GW don't move a little quicker in opening their back catalogue up again. They've been doing it, but sooo slowly. Some quotes: Quote: So in Lenton down the hall from the mold room there are two rooms, closets really, stacked with boxes of masters of both released and unreleased miniatures. One of them was almost predominantly Specialist games masters. Boxes and boxes of tins for models which are not even int he range or being sold as archive models. Also, the number of unreleased models GW has is astounding. As for Memphis, as of me leaving in July 2007, there were TONS of molds for everything from old catalogs like the original High Elves, Wood Elves, RT era Space Orks, Man o' War, Epic (original, mid and newer ranges). Wonder how many Epic molds sit there unreleased. |

I know of at least one entire army that was never released but completely made and moulded. |

From stuff I've seen there were ranges for both the templars (characters, robed marines, lr crusader, several neophytes, neophyte biker at least) and blood angels (characters, baal, furioso) I've even got some preds with BA icons on that were erroneously cast up as normal preds. I very much doubt anything has been destroyed or lost - more of a tactic to curb requests etc |

This info just makes it extra weird that some of the E:A era metal models were clearly molded off of a cast model and not an original model, because they have double mold lines, as if they were a dupe. |

Yup. I was got some of those hulls too, and will convert them to being the Baals they always should have been! |

For a lot of the EA era models, they put together one of the multi-component E40k models and then cast it as one or two pieces, hence the dual mould lines and reduced quality. |

All those molds. All that invested time and effort languishing, earning them no cash. I have heard a few unsubstantiated rumours of some models that may exist: - A new lord of battles model produced for 2nd edition - SG Salamander and Baneblade - I also heard a good chunk of Chaos Marine vehicles were done for E:A but are sat there un-molded. What a waste! Now, I am not naivie to think that all the molds they have will generate returns, but lets consider two models that they could shift (they seem to go for a good amount on Ebay) - The original Marauder Giant - The Mk1 Epic Gargant with all options Surely it's not that prohibative in cost to get old models like those above back into production? I assume there will be an element of mold recreation, test runs, recataloguing and the like. What would they cost GW and how long does it take to put them back into production? |
