I'm a complete newbie to Epic but about to start playing the game with a group of friends at a local club. I'm about to start work on a Deathguard list and I would like to base the infantry on round bases purely for aesthetic reasons. A couple of questions: 1) Are round bases legal? 2) Do they have impact on the game? 3) Would a force on round bases be acceptable in a tournament? Many thanks in advance for any help and advice. |

2- depends I have seen some real anal players (who are usually losing) that insist on the BtB aspect of assaults. The best way around this is to either: a. not play those people or b. cover this in the 5 min warm up Essentially, most people will not care. Just be prepared for those that may call rules on you for such a thing. Fact is round bases are harder to get into BtB than slim rectangle ones on the offensive assault or on a counter charge. Hope this helps ![]() |

When we're talking round bases may I ask what diameter people use for their infantry stands I tried 25mm 40k bases but they are a bit small I think. They become a bit to crowded for my liking. Is 30mm good? |

I do not have the rules in front of me however the legal base sizes can be found at the start of the rulebook. For INF, I think the 30mm is too big - legal eagle speaking. For gaming and the look of the army with opponents that do not mind, go for it. ![]() |

frogbear wrote: For INF, I think the 30mm is too big - legal eagle speaking. 30mm is fine. Here's the rules for infantry base sizes: 1.1.2 Stands [Excerpt] • A stand may be no more than 40mm and no less than 5mm across in any direction. • A stand must be at least 20mm across in one direction (ie, a 5mm by 5mm stand is not allowed, but a 5mm by 20mm stand would be okay). So, the largest allowable base would be a 40mm by 40mm square; any other shape that can fit within that square and that's at least 20mm in one direction is completely fair game. |

Welcome to the forum! Hope you enjoy the game ![]() nurgleonbass wrote: 2) Do they have impact on the game? There are some very small difference with round bases or bases of different sizes, but some are positive and some negative and overall it mostly balances out. I generally go for whatever looks better for each particular army/unit e.g. I'm mounting my ork big gunz on 40mm round bases with lots of crew because it looks cool and I can make each one a mini diorama. You might like to check out Mageboltrat's Death Guard army if you've not seen it - he uses round bases too and t's really inspiringly done! |

I use 1p for most infantry and 2p for bigger infantry or AVs. Very hard to fit more than 4 minis in a 1p coin though but since it's tyranids it does give a nice swarm feeling to them. |
