Post subject:  Two Q's from the tournament scene

Another tournament today and yet another question (or two) that it appears I cannot convince people on.

Here goes:

Blitz Objective
It is measured from the back table edge where the objective touches the table or is the whole objective counted?

Spacecraft and Points
Do you get full points for Spacecraft when counting up damage inflicted on your army for count back situations?

Thanks in advance

General convention in UK tournaments is to measure to a discreet point on the table edge itself.
Also, all objectives should be measured to the centre of the objective.

Some groups play it differently, however.

You can never claim points for "killing" a spacecraft.

Yeah, I ajudged it straight from how the (updated online) GW rule book describes it. i.e

You achieve this goal by capturing the objective that was set up on the opponent's table edge at the start of the game

When did it become "a point on the table edge?" Curious to know. Cheers.

At about the same time as "capturing an objective" involved measuring to the centre of the objective. ;-)

Most players are likely to place the entirety of their blitz model on the table rather than centering it on the edge with half hanging over, as it'd be too likely to get knocked off this way. In terms of measuring to capture it it should be to the board edge where the centre should be though, as otherwise people with different sized objectives could gain slight advantages/disadvantages.

We measure to the center of the Blitz objective (not to the table edge).
I see no real advantage/disadvantage to either way but we would always play objective center here in Perth.

There's a pretty noticable advantage to taking as small a blitz objective as possible if you use that convention.

There's also an advantage to use one as big as possible, when garrisoning off the blitz, it gives a deeper starting point.

All in all, measuring from the centre of objectives (and table edge for blitz) is the only way to be consistently fair to both players, and to take the size of the objectives out of the equation, allowing people to make crazy objectives without upsetting the game balance.

I wish more of the opponents at Heavy Bolter read these threads.

That's not really true at all. The center of the Blitz would be nearer the edge of the board if a smaller objective is used. The Blitz objective is always placed touching the table edge.

Really we are talking about a 1 or 2 cm at most. There is no issue with that and it does mean we have a definite place to measure from.

Sorry but this is a storm in a tea cup for me. If players are deliberately taking a large Blitz objective then they are putting their Blitz objective nearer the enemy. That is not an advantage at all.

Sorry guys but I see no reason to change the way that a couple od dozen of us play over here and we are not breaking the rules.

The best Epic player in the world just told you it was.

Dave: Maybe I wasn't talking about you. :-)
