Ok, so in my dream Saturday night I was playing Orks in 40k (which is weird because I don't actually play Orks) but I was using the Epic:A rules (also wierd because that's no my favorite flavor). Certainly, I'm not the first person to think about doing this.

So, has anyone used the E:A rules to play with their 28mm minis? It seams to me that it would be slightly simpler since all vehicles would be war engines so you wouldn't have to distinguish them so much.

Yes. For a while, there was a fairly intensive 40K-with-EA rules project under way.

As I recall, individual troops had stat lines like an EA unit - move, FF, CC, armor, weapons, notes. The weapon ranges were re-converted from cm back to inches and I think they used the 40K ranges. Movement and FF range was not. So, a 45cm weapon was ~45 inches, but 15cm move and firefight stayed at ~6 inches. Small arms weapons were given range fire stats. Vehicles ended up needing to use the war engine rules to handle the scale differences in firepower (one Epic scale infantry unit became 5 40K troopers, so of course vehicles needed to be several times as tough). They ended up with something like...

SM Tactical
6" move, 4+ armor, 4+FF, 4+CC
Bolter, 15" AP6+

SM Heavy Weapons
6", 4+, 3+, 5+
Missile Launcher, 48", AP5+/AT6+

Land Raider
8", 4+, 5+, 6+
2x lascannon, 48", AT4+
heavy bolter, 36", AP5+
DC3, Reinforced armor, thick rear armor, transport

SM stats and most of their vehicles were worked up. I'm not sure what else was done.

Aside from the stat conversions, everything ran with the core EA rules. The guys developing it loved it. A few people outside the main group working on it tested it and gave decent reviews. They put it on a website, iirc.

That was, however, a long time ago. I'm pretty sure we've been through 2 board crashes and a move since then. I doubt that any remnant remains. If no one can recall enough to point you in the right direction, all I can suggest is Google.

Incidentally, it's also been done the other way - using Epic minis to play 40K. The first such project I knew about was "Travel Space Hulk" with map pieces done on 1/4" graph paper and glued to magnetic sheets.

That was later expanded to 40K rules. Just convert all inches to cm and reduce the templates by 1:2.5 ratio. A 20x30" board with Epic models is to scale with a 4x6' 40K board. Obviously, WYSIWYG is a challenge.

Yep, E&C entered "magnetic travel 40k" into the open competition at gamesday once. Flocked scale metal board, 1/5 scale ruler and templates, magnets under each unit.

Surprisingly playable; it's actually the only time I've ever played an edition of 40k more modern than 2nd ed.

It was me and a mate converting things across with some slight changes...I've still got the files saved in my email account if people would like a copy?
We even had a rough set of army lists!!!

Cheers, MoK.

That would be cool to have on the boards long-term. Are you opposed to posting it here, or to a publicly accessible file that you could link to?

I'd forgotten that was you MoK...... Might have to dust them off to try and run some games at my 40k centric club.

Gosh, haven't checked TacComm out for ages (literally years), logged on and found bingo! Was thinking exactly this with the new DE codex out.

If its not going to be a sticky, could you PM me a copy MoK?
