I'm not paying 300pts for a preplanned barrage. Granted, I wouldn't pay for the Pinpoints either, as half of the points are for the transport capacity I wouldn't use. Now, if I had a dozen Vampires and a planetary assault scenario... |

Dont dismiss 2x pinpoint attacks with planetfalling Vampires so lightly. In a tournament setting, the ability to takeout enemy titans can be a winning strategy. Where an opponent has a 'battle' titan, he will have built his army and strategy around it. The Eldar can build an 'anti-titan' strategy army, including long-range firepower (Scorpions) Deep-strike capability (Aspects in Vampires, Storm Serpents with Tooled out Guardians, or even with War-Walkers). The important thing is to ensure that the army is not split into two halves which the opponent can destroy piecemeal. The other major advantage is that by planetfalling the Vampires, they avoid any AA, and also they get a separate activation - both critical considerations for the Eldar, because it is the weakest air-transport, and the Eldar must maintain an activation advantage. However, the final consideration is that planetfalling Eldar must be very carefull in their positioning. The problem is that the usual expectation is to drop the formations into a position to launch an assault, or within 30 cm of enemy positions - right under the guns of the opponent, who usually shoot the **** out of them! so alternative tactics are required here. |
