40k the game where the initiative die roll determines who wins! And of course, how willing you are to spend hundreds of £ on ForgeWorld purchases. Remember kids, the latest codex is always the best!

It's a winning formula for GW it appears.... :(

I completely understand their refusal to license. As I understand it the issues they had with from the earlier days of GW, when they licensed production out to other companies like Armorcast, had a lasting and negative impact on their intellectual property rights. I feel fairly certain they think that such troubles would more than outweigh the profit gained on licensing fees.

It's annoying, but not irrational.

Agreed. It's tough luck for us lot, but quite logical.

Lets face it we are probably better off running under the radar.

The rules are stable and most of the areas needing FAQ's have been covered. Loads of lists out there for players to use as they see fit, and the 'scratch building' that goes on is keeping the game going nicely.

This question comes up now and then. I usually give the same answers: Mainly that epic is in utter stasis!

It is neither dead nor dieing, GW do not promote the game, GW haven't dropped anything from the range, GW haven't added anything to the range.

There's been some fluctuation with forge world of course, largely for the worse in recent times but we'll see what happens next.

As far as number of players Epic is on the up, at least from my personal experience. More players then ever before, more tournaments than ever before.

Finally we have fan efforts. Army lists are approaching fruition. OK they're not GW official but they're as good as!

The future for epic? Same as before with slight gains made by the fans.

In many ways I'm actually quite pleased with the position epic holds at the moment. If it where a mega popular game like 40k I think we'd see many benefits, but also some seriously negative consequence.

Good answer. I actually think that things are looking a bit better now than a few years ago. We have outstanding minis from EW and DRM which are excellent proxies. We have two high quality, albeit unofficial, supplements and more in the works. Even though they are fan written, there is a wide variety of army lists. Sure, we'll never have the numbers that 40k has, but here in Southern New England we have seen a slight increase in the number of players and we are about to have our second tournament for this year. If it weren't for the lack of GW's official stamp of approval (which isn't as important to me as it was in the past), I'd say E:A is doing fairly well all things considered, provided GW doesn't completely drop Epic minis.

The lack of GW approval does put some players off from trying the game, but once people do play it I find they will continue to play, even if it doesn't become their number one game.

I was a bit worried about the game at the beginning of the year, mainly due to dwindling model support, but two events changed my think to optimistic: Zombocom's SoBs and E&C's ork infantry.

Before those, the only parts the any of us had really made were CAD vehicles (high quality, but easy to model) and conversions (generally low quality and/or narrow in scope). At first I figured that Zombo's SoBs were just going to be an anomaly (just a one-off thing by a motivated fan), but those orks proved otherwise. Since then, people have managed to make infantry for (at least) 4 armies and someone is working on infantry for (at least) 1 more. Not only that, but the models are all of superior quality to both offcial models and proxies. That shows that just about anyone can create a model of any type, and do so with to a high level of quality.

All in all, as long as we keep open to the idea that the game can be maintained and grow even without official support, I think we'll be good.

Doing the infantry was a bit of an experiment, but it worked, so I'm happy.

So I'm probably out of the loop, but what are EW and DRM models? Any links?

Both DRM and EW make 6mm minis. Here, take a look.

Both the owners of DRM & Exodus are old time Epic-philes ... like myself ... Go to those links that Dwarf Supreme posted ... And get back in the loop ... ;D

I couldn't agree more...

Every time I talk to friends who play 40k and Warhammer, or overhear discussions about those games at my local hobby store, I am reminded that GW "support" comes at a price: codex creep, having to buy new rulebooks, obsolete models, etc. etc. None of that stuff is cheap. As long as they don't completely screw the pooch and dump the model line (as mentioned above), E:A will be fine.

There's a thread pinned in the "epic 6mm" board that has a pretty long list of 6mm manufacturers, btw.
