EA is the most up to date and mainstream version (And generally the one that's talked about, played etc). It can be downloaded from GW's site:

NetEpic is, from my limited knowledge an old version of the rules kept alive by a group of internet devotees.

NetEpic is a fan-based effort that is based on the 2nd edition rules.

Epic : Armageddon is the current edition of the rules, and it is the most widely played version at this time.

The PDFs on the GW site contain the most up-to-date version of the game-rules, but many of the army lists have been updated in a project on this site known as NetEA, which aims to make small tweaks to the official list to ballance them, and to come up with lists for the armies GW never covered. These lists can be found mostly in this section of the forum: http://www.tacticalwargames.net/taccmd/viewforum.php?f=69. They are currently being collated into a single armies book that will be downloadable from a netEA website.

There are also tournament groups in the UK and France who write their own lists for use in their tournaments, Epic UK and the F-ERC.

Yes, the PDFs on GWs site are up-to-date. They have the 2008 Errata in them already.

If you poke around here you'll find various army lists that people have made. Use as much or as little as you want.

Epic Armageddon is my favourite war-game by far, I'm sure you'll like it :)

As Zombo said, a compilation of all the army lists we've developed is being worked on, but if you're not sure of anything or can't find a list in the mean-time (virtually every list from W40k has been translated to epic) let us know and we'll point you in the right direction.

Concur with Rug, bar the stuff you download from the GW site it has all the lists they consider balanced, or at least not overpowered :)

Epic UK is probably the best at the moment for generally conservative and reasonably balanced army lists assuming they have the lists you want (musch more limited than here).

Ditto what the others said really. Between this and the EpicUK sites you'll have pretty much everything you need to get started, bar the models!

Don't be put off by the tournement element of the EpicUK site either, the tournies are generally some of the friendliest you're likely to experiance in wargaming.

At least, I find I everyone to be friendly when they are comfortably beating me.... ::)
