How are you basing your bikes / cavalry? - The SM-2 way with two bikes/ cavalry on a 20mmx20mm square? Squares? - The Epic-40k way with three bikes / cavalry on a 20mmx40mm Warmaster-style rectangular base? Rectangles? - Speaking of which, which type of basing do you prefer and why? I have a combination of the two, but I think I'm leaning towards the Warmaster 20mmx40mm base, because I like the differentiation from other bases (It gives cavalry its' own distinctive look). On the other hand, they don't fit on the terain nearly as well as the old 20mmx20mm square bases. Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. |

That varied greatly between games. We use SM1 standards, normally. ? Rough Riders & IG bikes = 5 on G/W Cav bases, why 'cause you could dismount according to SM1 rules and fight as an inf. stand. ? SMs/ Eldar bikes = one on G/W small square or round base. ? Chaos - Juggers & Slann = 2 , Disc riders = 1 (they have a hvy wpn and are a skimmer) on round base. ? Squats - Trikes & Nobles = 1 (hvy wpn), bikes = 2 on round bases. Orks - 5 Boar Boys on Warmaster base. Bikes, etc. - 1 on round base. Again, most of this is based on SM1. Legion-4 |

..I'm basing mine in the Epic 40k style- I think they look rather crowded together in twos on the old bases, and there is room for scenery and stuff, even if you do use more models on a 20x40 base... |

They are 50mm x 20mm -I'm surprised you weren't able to get any Warmaster bases- my GW had a bag or two of them last time I was there- I'm sure you could order some from Mail Order - only ?3 for loads.... ![]() |

I use the Warmaster stands too and think they look great. The idea of using 'card' like GW suggested when Epic 40k came out was nuts. Yeah, it was cheap, but I just can't imagine that they would be sturdy enough to hand a fall off the table and not have their corners get crushed. I am not sure if basing them in any more than three for EpicA is necessary, but who knows what will be in the rulebook. Maybe expect five as it'll mean you'll have to buy more and make GW some more money. Hey Legion, I was wondering if anyone had ever mounted five IG motorbikes on a single stand back then. . . when we played, we just couldn't figure out how 5 IG bikes would be mounted on a single stand, while Space Marine and Eldar Jetbikes were singles, and their stats remained almost identical. I know the IG could dismount, so I probably would do the Rough Riders that way. . . I just seemed like a waste, so we didn't do it. See ya. ![]() |

I mount bikes on 20 x 20 bases 2 per base. In general I have standardised my bases depending on troop type. I did this for 2 reasons one to make types easily recognisable and also to allow me to integrate models into games of DSII as well as Epic. I mount squaddies on the E40k bases 5 per base while Hvy weapons and command are mounted on 20X20 at 3 figures per base. It looks ok Bob DeAngelis |

Hi! I use SM2 recommendations for basing. I dont like the epic40k base for bikes for the simple reason that basing 2 per stand gives me more models than 3 per base and ultimately more detachments. Primarch |

Gandalf, Did you get my e-mail in response to your Chaos question? As far as IG bikes, we figured SM & Eldar were just tougher than the IG, and the IG were trained differently. We did upgrade the bolter to a grade 2 and upped the CAF ... + they could dismount, so it worked out for us. ![]() Legion-4 |

My GW is tiny, but also super busy. I have never seen any warmaster bases in there, so i went for the cavelry option. They look ok, because I base my dreads, attack biks and land speeders an round 40k bases. They all fit in. Cheers Chris |

Welcome to the forums, Bob! Hope you enjoy them.... ![]() -Gandalf, sure most card is pretty useless, but thick, dense picture-framing card is good... I use it for my scenery bases too.... |

Well, being a scabby, skanky guy, I put two cav/bikes on a 40mmx20mm base. No seriously, I like the varied styles you can get by basing them like that, although I use putty to fill in the holes first ![]() Or I invert them... but that isn't an idea solution for me. |

Gandalf, in SM1 - Chaos SMs = 4 stands and one stand is a command stand with a Champion. ?So 4 total. That's right out of the rules and that's the way we have been doing it. ?Let me know if you need anything else. We can do it here on line, then everybody can see it and be informed. ![]() ![]() |

LOL! My Dad used to tell me he played Army Men with clothes pins as a kid, and I am starting to appreciate what he meant, haha. Okay, here's another question. War Hordes are made up of Battle and Cult Warbands, and a Battle one must have at least 4 detachments. I know Chaos Marines can be led by a Champion/Commander for 20 points, or a Champions stand for 120 points (which I like). Chaos marine detachments aren't independent, so I know someone has to lead it, so if the counter includes 4 Chaos Marine Stands with a commander, how would you add a Champion to it? Would it take up one of the detachment requirements? I can already have a Champion lead the whole Battle warband, so would that mean I would have several running around? I have most of the rules, but are missing the counters and their descriptions, so I can't figure it all out. Also, I know Orks in a Warband have to remain within 30cm of a Warboss to receive orders, but the rules for Chaos doesn't mention anything about the Warband staying within a cetain distance of the Champion/Daemon. Boy, it's hard to digest Andy's rules sometimes. . . I am guessing the individual detachments fight independently so long as they have a Champion nearby. . . How much did the Chaos Marine Detachment cost? I have realized that you just can't add up their BRs as Andy seemed to give a discount for choosing pre-set detachments. Back in the day, we just made up our own detachments as we found Andy's rules a little hard to follow. Just so I have something to work on at work, do you remember how these detachments came: Land Raiders (I am assuming in twos) Slaanesh/Khorne riders. (I know they can be Warband leaders as well, but can they fight in detachments as well? I know they are expensive) Trolls/Minotaurs Thanks again Legion, I don't expect my White Dwarfs to get here for a few more weeks, so this helps. I'll have more questions about the IG next... hehe... |
