Post subject:  Trying to get this blog thing going...

Greetings

I joined the forum just before the crash and posted a bunch of pics from my EPIC collection. The crash and subsequent loss of all the uploading/posting work (at least for a while) drove home the message that it might be a better idea to find a permanent home for the images. I have thus created my first little blog experiment:

http://wargamingworkshop.wordpress.com/

It is definitely an early attempt and I would greatly appreciate comments. In particular, I would like to hear any opinions about the images that I posted (my EPIC IG and Warmaster Orcs). Not so much about the painting but rather the style of the photos (white vs grass background, size, resolution, etc). If I want to do this right then I need to photograph some 4000+ miniatures. I would rather only do this once :)

Apart from the two sample armies there isn't much on the site yet. A few old "thought articles" that I wrote years ago and resurrected/updated quickly. Maybe of more interest is an overview of my wargaming room with some pics (that's the only thing that I already had pics for and it is supposed to stand in as a "sample" for tutorials/work in progress reports - comments on style are also welcome for it).

I appreciate any suggestions! Thanks.

cheers
Helge

PS: Yes, I "stole" the design template from Onyx... What can I say, I like his blog and really am not a web design kind of guy :)

Very cool site!

I would say a bit less cropped (more background) on the IG images.

Fantastic site.

I'm particularly jealous of your gaming/hobby room. Great stuff.
I've bookmarked your site to follow your progress.

Personally, I have no preferance for any of the styles of photos. They all look really good to me.

I'm not a web design kind of guy either.. ;D
I was put onto Wordpress by a friend who insisted that I get my own site up - Thanks Matt_Shadowlord.

Cheers,
Steve.

Nice. The site itself is quite plain, however the gems inside it are worth the effort of the search ;)

That gaming room leave s me speachless :o

I note, Helge, that you're apparently in Canada. Whereabouts?

I ask this because it will take me only one word to describe your blog, room, and miniatures (awesome), and the post should probably be longer...

I am totally envious of your gaming room.

I want a test environment modelled on your gaming room :(!

I am also in awe of your gaming room.

As for background to site...depends on what the picture in background would be, but i like the clean look that it has currently.

I wouldn't crop the photos, unless to make them all the same size. Ditto on the war room, does it have laser fences/automated gun turrets/fire proofing?

Thanks for the feedback and compliments on the room. The room HAS fire proof walls but the only laser fences are of the 40k Black Reach variety. Alas, no gun turrets either (though there is a broadsword as a last ditch defence option :) ).

Knave, I am indeed in Canada, Montreal to be precise. Drop in games are welcome for those in the area!

I am uploading another wave of older stuff tonight: Mordheim building tutorial, some pics of finished Mordheim buildings and a Flames of War campaign (already up). Time permitting, I will re-shoot and upload a few more EPIC army pages as well.

Your meditations on wargaming are quite interesting, BTW. And more Epic would be lovely. :)

I'll wave at you when I drive through on my way to Manitoba in a few months. :P

Absolutely outstanding! That gaming room is mind blowing. I assume all the display units and whatnot are all bespoke

If "bespoke" means "custom made" then that's correct. You can see my design drawings on the top of the page. Conventional ready-made furniture doesn't quite do the job for requirements such as "hold 4'x2' terrain tiles horizontally" :)

After a few hours of photographing, GIMPing and typing, the entire Mordheim section is now up. Why Mordheim? Simply because the models were on the top shelf in the skirmish cabinet. I am working slowly downward.

I think I now have the right technique to ensure that all images show the miniatures at the same size (slightly larger than real life on my 30" 1920x1200 monitor, so they should be about right on screens in the 22"-25" range).

I put up the first "proper" EPIC army: Salamander Space Marines. The other painted armies (Imperial Guard, Orks, Chaos Black Legion) are photographed but it will take some time to edit them properly.

I also added all my Man O' War, Mordheim and Blood Bowl models, as well as Flames of War Germans.
