Post subject:  drop pod and cover saves Q

Not sure if this has already been answered, but do units under fire from landing drop pods benefit from a to-hit modifier and/ or cover save if they're in cover? Do they need LoS from the drop zone as well?

My nefarious drop podding opponent believes they don't "as they're firing on the way down" but it seems a bit odd to me as

a) units in cover being shot at by aircraft still benefit from it and b) the drop pods only fire once they land and open (the storm bolter being inside the drop pod)

any ideas?

Targets get cover as the weapon doesn't have ignore cover. No line of site required as it description states "all models within 15cm".

It's more like a big artillery strike as it's meant to represent loads of individual pods dropping into an area. The model is just a marker for the center of the drop zone.

Like Meph says, think of it like an artillery barrage. If the unit is actually in cover you get the save, but you don't get any benefit from blocked (or partially blocked) line of sight.
