Post subject:  Getting back into the swing of things..
After bumping into Mr Otter a couple of weekends ago at a WFB event, we got chatting briefly about Epic and he planted the seeds which are starting to germinate now with my interest peaking in the game. But I've been out of the swing of things and have a few questions....

1 ) Support? - This was one of the reasons why I gradually drifted away was the lack of support from GW. From my natterings with Matt, I understand that Epic UK are now semi-supporting the game. Does this cause any problems in regards of players playing different versions or do people generally play the same system?

2 ) Players? - We used to have a few local players but not too sure if they do now (all distracted with Flames or Hordemachine). Are there any players in the Dudley area?

3 ) Man Down! - Speaking of players, is anybody in contact (or is) Matt Philpotts? We lost contact with him a few years ago and not too sure what happened to him. He used to go by the forum name of Lalonde. Last I know he moved to Redding.

EpicUK have been supporting the UK tournament scene well, delivering updates to the army lists (and a few new army lists) on time and in a balanced manner.

Worldwide, the French have a similar organisation (known as FR-ERC) and other active nations (including the US) generally follow the army list updates / the new army lists of the "NetEA" project, which is based here on Tactical Command.

So 3 rules development groups are supporting the game, each with its own speciality:

EpicUK - Concentrates on making limited changes to army lists to try and correct flaws, develops some new army lists, and runs tournaments.

FR-ERC - Concentrates on extensive army list development on both existing and new army lists. French and some European tournaments use their army lists.

NetEA - Concentrates on making new army lists, and supplement projects (such as Epic:Raiders and Epic:Siege) that tie the army lists together. Army lists are used in worldwide tournaments, and have been used at some UK and French events too.

In general, if you're a UK player wanting to go to UK tournaments, you'll find yourself playing EpicUK's rules at 90% of Epic events.

No idea about Dudley, I'm from North London, where there are a decent number of Epic players.

If you're a tournament-type player (and I'm guessing you are, by your mention of a WFB event), then you'll find the UK tournament scene is healthy and growing.

Is no longer supported, and I understand those regions that did use it heavily are generally transitioning to the NetEA army lists.

The rules system is consistently used, at least in the UK, but there are just different genres of army lists about.

Epic-UK wouldn't let you use any of the Net-EA lists like Tau, Necrons, Tyranids, Dark Eldar, Inquisition, etc at one of their tournaments but in friendly games anything goes and it's fine to play a Net-EA guard list vs an Epic-UK one say, the changes and differences are small.

Players probably depends on your area and who you can persuade to play. The numbers of UK tournaments and players going to them has increased, think there's around one a month now, so that's always a good way to play even if a little less locally.

There's a Members tab at the top and you click and look them up and send them an email.

So none of the "big 3" make any changes to the core rules (well, EpicUK make one minor change to the tournament scenario, but that's it AFAIK).

EUK have sometimes drawn from NetEA lists when developing their lists in turn, so commonality is pretty high, with again pretty minor differences.

Tried it but no joy ;)

So I think I'll stick to the core rules and the lists done by the Epic UK guys. I'm hoping to go to some Epic events later this year too
