In the EA RaW, it look like fighters on CAP can only engage aircraft attempting a ground attack. Is that right?

If so, is everyone playing it that way? That fighters on CAP cannot engage aircraft performing air assaults or interceptions?

I've always played that you can CAP any action.

As long as both players are reasonable about it i've never had any problems CAPing a CAP either.

Really? I've always played that you can't cap either an intercept or CAP, but as Hena says an air assault is a special form of ground attack anyway.

We play that you can CAP a GA or an Intercept.

We do not CAP CAP as it can get confusing.

We also believe however the air rules need a review.

I've played all of these ways and they are all fun.  Just as long as the players agree beforehand then you won't run into problems.

As for the air review, it was done awhile ago.  Neal put together an excellent set of rules that I hope are put out as an alternate in the NetEA work.
Pro: it is streamlined and has few kinks in it. "This is how the air rules should be played."
Con: it underutilizes the actual models which makes a lot of players unhappy. "I might as well use thumbtacks or pieces of paper - why bother painting my models if they aren't going to be on the board for more than 30 seconds?"

I PM'd Neal.  Hopefully he'll have them someplace.  I remember them on the Specialist-Games forum but never thought to copy them down. Is that database up and running yet?  I know Cybershadow was working on that but I don't know the status of the project.

Yep.

As you can tell, a lot of people allow variant house rules.
=======

Edit:  Added a thread with the "Immediate Disengage" air rules and the revised planetfall rules.
