Hi, not long ago i came across this forum. Iam a veteran games workshop player and i was bored of W40k a Fantasy, so i decided to give a try to Epic Armageddon which i found to be veeeeery interesting. But my question is: what is the difference between E:A and NetEpic? What are pros and cons of both systems? I love E:A but i am dissapointed about support form GW to this system. |

Welcome to the forum. NetEpic is an enhanced version of the Space Marine era Epic system, so if you played Space Marine and Titan Legions it works more like that system. Epic Armageddon uses a different set of rules, which are based on, but a lot better than, Epic 40,000. I think that both systems are very good, although I feel that Epic Armageddon has more streamlined rules (once you have learnt them), but either system is worth getting involved with in my view. Lack of support for the system from GW is nothing new I'm afraid, and is not likely to change.  Epic has been rather towards the bottom of GW's priority list ever since it lost its status at GW's third core game in the wake of the transition from Space Marine to Epic 40,000. |

This question pops up every now and then and you'll also find some answers in the NetEpic section of this forum. As Irisado pointed out Epic has been around in a number of forms since it was first launched back in the late 80ies. NetEpic is an fan made improved version of the second incarnation of the game from the early-mid 90ies. It involves a bunch of special rules and can be quite fun to play (Nothing like dropping things on top of other things with your Soopa Lifta Droppa for example). It also handles very large games quite well. On the downside you need to keep track of all those special rules which makes it a bit slow to play. Epic Armageddon is the latest incarnation of the game currently (but barely) supported by GW. It is more about manouvering and assaulting and generally plays smoother than NetEpic. The game is balanced for forces around 2500-4000 points, and some argue that titan combat could be slightly more detailed. Since both rulesets are available for free I suggest you download both and give them a try. There's some differences in formation sizes (number of vehicles in a squadron), but apart from that there's reallt othing stopping you from playing both systems if you like. |

thnks a lot! ok, i will try NetEpic too. Iam very pleased with E:A. I have some friends who like E:A more than w40k so i have plenty of players to play with  i didnt know that NetEpic and E:A are two different systems. i thought NetEpic is only upgraded version of E:A. So thnks for your answer. I will give it a try

I wouldn't say armageddon is completely unsupported (well I would if we were just talking about GW), I haven't been around on these boards long enough to confirm but there seem to be yearly updates and errata produced by the members of this forum, as well as expanded supplements similar to swordwind (raiders and siege) and additionaly there are also several variant army lists being created in the army lists section which might be worth a browse. edit -- longest sentence, ever   |

No, there's plenty of fan support for E:A. I was merely speaking in terms of available miniatures and official "stamps of approval" for the various projects. You'll always find the odd gamer who refuses to play anything not officially sanctioned by GW, but in terms of Epic I think it is safe to say that you'll get the most enjoyable gaming experience if you incorporate some of the great fan made stuff available here. The trick is just to make sure both players are up to date with the latest developments, or agree wich rules to use.BTW I guess what may have aided to the confusion is that some people are now talking about NetE:A (NetEpic Armageddon). This should definitely not be confused with NetEpic. NetE:A is indeed the fan made rules updates based on E:A.

uuuuh so now i am bit confused  i am afraid that if i let others play some unoficial army lists, that they will be in advantage against players using oficial Space marines and Guard list? or is it balanced? or what army unoficial lists would you sugest for core E:A play? |

All the NetE:A lists are marked with "approved", "development" or "experimental" stamps in the PDFs. These are in descending order of progress. Experimental are probably the only one you might need to worry about, as many have seen little widescale playtesting. However, most lists are, by and large, well balanced, and should pose little problem for most players. If you do use a developmental or experimental list, and find units under or overpowered, by all means, open a thread... SG |

You can also get the feel for a list by simply reading the threads that revolve around their development, or posting your own thread asking about the list's balance, or PMing the Army Champ and getting their feedback. Oh, and check out the link in my sig for the Raiders supplement if you are interested in Dark Eldar, Necron, or Minervan Armored Legion Imperial Guard. Raiders 2.0 will be out soon (as in the next few weeks) with some tweaks, but for the most part you can play with the existing rules and stats and be happy. |

And to complete the details on history and development; as Warmaster Nice says, the GW "Epic" ruleset has gone through four incarnations. When the third set appeared, a good number of fans preferred to continue with the 2nd edition, so created NetEpic. The NetEpic rules can be downloaded from this section of the boards Epic Armageddon is the 4th incarnation (that can still be purchased from GW). There have been some updates to these rules which have now been included in the free downloads available on the resources section of the official GW site. However, GW support for E:A is restricted; the rule corrections they have published and the development of the army lists is now completely fan based. The GW site also contains the "official" lists, which are considered balanced for games between 2700 - 5000 points. Some of the other lists in this site are also reasonably balanced, but most are still being developed by the various "Army Champions". The NetE:A committee is trying to bring together the various army lists, watch for developments in this thread and the various threads for the different races. Finally, do check out the two 'fan based' supplements referred to by Moscovian. While you can download them, it is worth getting on the list for a printed copy. |
