I'm going to have my thrid game tonight and I wanted to clear up some issues that came up in my second game. 1. Does Inspiring work, when the Inspiring unit is in a formation lending firesupport? 2. A fearless formation that is already broken doesn't get wiped out if it loses an assault, right? 3. Let's say I have a formation of n units with n-1 blastmarkers, is there any way to get rid of those blasmarkers without the chance of the formation breaktion due to a failed initiative test? |

Quote: (ColonelWicked @ Dec. 23 2009, 13:02 ) 1. Does Inspiring work, when the Inspiring unit is in a formation lending firesupport? No. You don't count the support fire formations when calculating outnumbering bonus, or blast markers bonus, right ?. For the Inspinring bonus, it's the same. Quote: 2. A fearless formation that is already broken doesn't get wiped out if it loses an assault, right? Right. But non Fearless formation are not automatically wiped out if they loose an assault. They just die extremely fast with the combat result and the blast markers. There is no automatic wipe out, juste the application of the standard system. Quote: 3. Let's say I have a formation of n units with n-1 blastmarkers, is there any way to get rid of those blasmarkers without the chance of the formation breaktion due to a failed initiative test? No, it's an automatic self brake ... bad luck. |

1. No, only the formations directly involved in the assault count for resolution effects 2. Think so! 3. Nope, roll the dice and pray! Of course the supreme commander reroll can be used! |

If a formation is broken at the beginning of an assault, and it loses, it is wiped out. Except of course, for any fearless units in the formation, who survive. Don't activate them in the turn and hope they rally in the end phase. Remember, you only place a blast marker for a failed attempt to activate the formation in the Action Phase. Failed rally rolls do not place another blast marker. |

You are not allowed to not activate a formation during a turn. The only way to actually pass is to keep a formation that started the turn on overwatch, on overwatch, and such 'passes' must be the last thing you do in a turn. |

Failed rally rolls do not place another blast marker. I thought All formations had to take an action test and not activating a formation wasn't allowed. Hasn't this been cleared up a few times by Jervis already ? mainly to prevent players from doing this and also to stop players from not having to move out of scout zone of controls etc . I know the rules say that all unbroken formations can take an action but this is to show that they can only take 1 action per turn. The rules also state players keep taking turns until all formations have activated. Quote: 1.6 THE ACTION PHASE In the action phase, the players take it in turns to carry out actions with their unbroken formations. Each unbroken formation can take one action per turn. The player that won the strategy roll can choose whether to go first or second. The player going first then carries out an action with one formation, and then their opponent does likewise, and so on until all formations have taken an action. If one player runs out of formations to activate, then the opposing player may keep on activating formations one after the other until all of his formations have taken an action. |

From page 14 of the EA Rulebook: "1.6.1 Actions: ...Note that you must activate a formation if you can, you can't choose to 'pass' unless you have no choice in the matter." |

That's correct. You cannot choose not to activate a formation. The only exception is remaining on Overwatch. |

Hmm. I'm pretty sure I knew that at one stage. Not sure why I thought you could leave a formation unactivated. Ah, well. |
