So as epic is a game of mm, how anal is to anal over measuring and making your opponent move with such precsion ?
I know it depends on casual vs GT and other factors  but would be interesting to get a idea of how other people feel.

cheers

1. Don't use the elastic tape measure
2. Don't ignore terrain.
3. Be truthful about your dice rolls when I am not looking
4. Enjoy the game

These four commandments will ensure you and the Frogbear will have an enjoyable game.

I'm happy when things are tight for people to specify stuff is not intermingled, unless its so tight it is a consequence of moving to that spot.

The whole intent of all the mm is for formations to spread out, likewise why the game uses barrage templates. Moving as a Napoleonic block is an advantage for some forces in regards to assault and bringing guns to bear.

It specifically states in the rule book that with such tiny models you have to be generous, it's quite relaxed even at the GT. If someone says "these troops are not supposed to be intermingled" that is usually good enough (especially if they state that as they lean accross the table and move them). Someone who then argues that they are actually only 4.7cm apart and thus are infact intermingled may get away with it a few times but will quickly get a reputation and start to loose sportsmanship points.

It's also worth noting that epic is a game of cm not mm so anything less than 0.5cm could be quite reasonably be rolled for. Epic's a game of more reasonable mature gamers than it's 28mm counterparts!

Agreed - unless they have had to be intermingled for specific placement or are that close that their is no confusion players will generally check whether they were supposed to be intermingled - were all adults and models do get knocked

State "this stuff's not intermingled" and you'll have a happy game with little micro measuring.

Same thing counts for most measuring really, just state what's happening.

I am the same with intermingling. It's the disembarking from transports that I'm a stickler for. Especially given strip bases are 4cm to begin with, if you're not in base-to-base with the vehicle after disembarking (on very close to it) the stand probably isn't wholly within 5cm of the vehicle.

Nothing in the rules says the whole base must be within 5cm, just that the base must be within 5cm.

You measure model to model though, so every model has be be within 5cm of the transport.

I'm with the rest - if it's close, just state your intent.  If nothing else, models and terrain get bumped.

We are fast and loose when models are far away.  If you have a company of Russ on line, just measure the move on one end, then on the other, then line the tanks back up in between them.  Or measure a few units in the front of the formation and just fill in the rest in roughly the same positions.

When it comes to placement for assaults, measuring counterchargers and other things, we do get fairly precise.  However, that's almost never a case of "Oh, I needed 15.2 cm of movement and I only have 15cm."  It's usually a case of who can support, where you can avoid ZoC and so forth, so if you were a little loose on your move measurements previously in the game, it really doesn't matter.

Same thoughts as Neal. Although, when it comes to intermingling I do get somewhat picky, but I always ask my opponent if he intends to intermingle and if he doesn't I let him reposition stands and/or vehicles.

How would you measure if two bases were 15cm apart to see if they could firefight? You'd measure to see if at least one model on the base was in range, per the rules. You wouldn't insist the entire base of both models was within 15cm, right?

This is the same thing; if one model on the base is within 5cm of the transport then the base is within 5cm.

Why would every model on the base have to be in range? That's not the case in any other measurement in epic.

It is for daemon summoning, but that's specified precisely because it is an exception.

It is for movement, you can't move any model on a stand more than it's movement. I take the disembark as movement, from what the rulebook says:

Quote:

Disembarking units may be placed within 5cms of the transport vehicle.

Anyway, this is something people go over in the 5-minute warm up, I'm not going to argue over it with you. You play it your way and I'll play it mine. If we ever play a game against one another we'll roll a die.

Must get into the habit of being more careful with the distances and saying that... I had my two main IG units occupying a clump of bunkers at Open War vs MoK and they were a little closer together that I'd intended and got hit with a clipping intermingled assaulted and broken
