I saw a battle report the other day and the person was using fow (small bases) with epic infantry on them (they looked great) and just wanted to know if anyone else it doing that and how much does it change blast templates.

thanks

I think the overall consensus is that base size and shape is pretty insignificant as long as it follows the overall guidelines given in the rulebook. Compact bases are less likely to be covered by blast templates but more difficult to have formations stretch out in larger zones of control. In game terms the pros and cons outweighs each other.

I highly recommend FOW small bases for Epic.

They are well within the size guidelines in the rulebook, and they have enough space for a 'realistic' squad formation, or to fit a tank on one.

The one thing about FOW bases (and for that matter WH40k/WH bases): the beveled sides look nice, but they make it hard to actually grasp the bases.

I find that double-layer WM bases, or a 3mm litko base is much easier to grab hold of... which means I'm not grabbing the minis themselves.

what sizes are they if i were to order them from litko?

1"x1 1/4": 25mmx31mm roughtly.
$18 for 100.

Dave had good luck countersinking minis into 1mm or 2mm Litko bases (with a magnetic base below it),

I easily side with Carrington on the con of FoW bases.

But I advocate 30x20 from renedra.co.uk and 40x30 from kallistra.co.uk (who also have antislip backing).
If you want to go pure fire teams (2-3 ppl) then renedra also have 20x15.

What cost are the F0W bases? They seem superior to the warmaster base.

The small ones - for infantry and most AVs are £6.50 for 54 - thats the rrp anyway though you can usually get them for about £5.50 at most stores.

Medium ones - suitable for SHTs, land raiders etc are £6.50 for 26

How do people sink the models in? Suitable sized drill bit and don't go to far?

The FOW base is a little thin for drilling.

I generally 'green stuff' (modelling putty) around the bases of models on top of the base- barely noticeable.
