Right.  So MoK has kindly agreed to show me the ropes without getting too competitive (roughly translates in going to give me a good shoeing without putting in too much effort...)

I'm trying to put together a small 1000 point force for a game to show me the basics, and have come up with the below:-

Big Warband - 350pts

Big Blitz Brigade - 250pts

Big Blitz Brigade - 250pts

Stormboyz - 150pts

TOTAL - 1000PTS.

Any constructive thoughts are welcome!

Cheers

Reedar

Hmmm, can't field koptas as don't have the models yet.

I could change the Blitz Brigade set up to:-

Big Blitz Brigade, odd boy - 300pts
Blitz Brigade, odd boy - 200pts

Same points, just less models.

Anything is fine for the 1000pts game chap; it's the 3000pt one's that need advice!

In the 1k practice run i'll probably take something like:

-Mechanised Company 400
-Infantry 250
-Sentinels 100
-Sentinels 100
-T.bolts 150

Two big formations with a scout screen (scouts have a big zone of control and i'll show you how to guard from assaults and such with them; you can do this with you're stormboyz.) I've popped some Thunderbolts in the above too so as you can get used to how fliers work.

As a quick look over one of the things ork armies just love is oddboys! All thos TK or MW hits are astoundingly nasty! As such you could decrease the size of one of the blitz brigades and stick a one or two oddboyz in the other. The 60cm range also makes formations like that a lot more tactically flexible.  Make sure to include some flak too so i can show you how that works!

What sort of 3k list were you thinking of by the way? There are some really nicely setup tournament lists i've faced over the years; one of my favourites has two Uge mobs of boys and updgraded normal sized warbands in 2 landa's! I'll let you into a secret too; i'm going to be taking a warlord so if you want to duke it out with a gargant the 650pt one is a steal and doesn't tend to eat up activations too much either.  People are also generally a big fan of super stompas's too.
Yrs,
Ryan

Yes, drop the air for the first game. Other than that either list should work for a demo.

Do you guys demo at 1000?
I ran through a couple of "learn the rules" games (my first game of epic, yay!) the other day, at 1500, found it worked ok for getting a handle on the mechanics, but it really wasn't very fun at those points levels. I suspect at 2000 it'll pick up a bit.

I normally just start out at 3,000 but play the game very much as a run through if I'm introducing one person. If I have 2 I'll coach from the sideline.

First game may or may not have WE but not flyers normally, but with experienced gamers I have thrown everything in too.

I've played a couple of small games before so I'm not a complete novice.  Although it was a approx a year ago I should be comfortable with the basics.
Based on that I'm happy to give the flyers a shot, but like you guys say I wouldn't suggest them to someone who was having their first training game.

List therefore is as follows:-

Big Warband 350pts
Stormboyz 150pts
Big Blitz Brigade Two Oddboyz 350pts
Blitz Brigade (flak) 150pts

If MoK has TBolts then I should get a feel for how they work and I'll then include some F Bommerz in our 3k game.

I'll post up a draft 3k list towards the end of this week.  How many activations should I be aiming for though? 9?

Thanks all.

Reedar

The generally accepted rule of thumb is 3-4 activations per 1000.

9 is generally agreed to be on the low side for 3k, 'popcorn' lists (one's full of really little but genreally weak formations) can reach 14-15 easy so somewhere in between is always a good trade off.
