Thought I'd post a hello now that TacCom seems to be stable.

Hello.

Over a decade ago, hoping to entice my fellow 40k players into a more thoughtful game, I bought a Space Marine box set, a half dozen of the little army boxes and a few blisters of minis. This may seem crazy to do on spec, but at the time several hobby stores around here were shifting their Space Marine stock in anticipation of Epic 40k. The whole deal cost around $100 at the time.

Of course nobody wanted to try it - our group was getting out of 40k in favor of RPGs again (We're just now getting back in, the bad taste of the 2nd-3rd changeover has finally faded). The armies became bits, either parted out for spacecraft games (Full Thrust rules!) or given to anyone that needed them.

Last year after looking at the EA rules I decided to pull out the figs that were left and see if I could assemble a couple of armies from the remains. The goal was to do it a no or low cost. I came up with 3k of Orks (with paper standup grots), 3k of Marines, and a kinda-sorta IG army as long as I use lots of paper aircraft and break the formation/support formation ratios. In addition, last week I based up the rest of my Marines and cleaned up/modded my remaining Land Raiders and Rhinos and now I have a total of 6k of Marines to play with.

I've only played two games so far (both with a friend who did it more to be a friend than because he has any skill or desire to be skilled at playing minis games), but next week I'm playing my third at my local game club. I've got a dozen terrain pieces sitting in the garage that I'm going to go finish this afternoon for next weeks game.

And Gouda help me, I'm even thinking of breaking my low/no cost rule and buying some figures again. I looked at the Daemonic Horde list and got that expensive feeling in the top of my head again. It all comes down to the interest level I can generate either at the game club or within my game group.

Anyway, that's a long way of saying, "Here's yet another guy trying to get Epic jump-started in his area."

Well, I couldn't wait. Two Chaos Hordes on the way, and I'm watching all the auctions and trade sites for more SM Rhinos and Raiders.

It is kind of ironic that one of Epic's best selling points cannot be used in GW's marketing as it would make a mockery of their other products : :))

And a warm welcome Dangersaurus  :)

They also can't mention that Epic was designed for adults, as that implies (Truthfully) that their Core games have had to make concessions so as to appeal to children.

Although they can hint at it; no secret is made of the fact that Epic is intended for more experienced gamers.

In the pages of the Epic rulebook that's certainly true, but outside of it, they tend to encourage experienced gamers towards Apocalypse as the natural apex of a hobbyist's gaming.

IMHO.
