| Post subject: | Broken Units and Objectives |
A friend and I are busy trying to dust off our Epic hats and get to grips with the EA rules. We have been running through the training missions in the rulebook as a good starting point, but have run into an issue. Can a broken unit be used to contest an objective? Thanks for any/all input |

In the training missions, I don't see why not. The victory conditions just say "a unit within 15cm" and don't say anything about being unbroken or anything. In the Grand Tournament scenario, broken units cannot capture or contest objectives. |

Though it doesn't say so, it's best to assume that a broken formation cannot claim an objective in the training scenarios. |

But as the rally phase occurs before the victory phase, would that mean that an unit that is broken, makes its withdrawal move toward an objective, and rallies during the rally phase can claim it? That seems very weird to me, as there are situations under which you would benefit from your unit getting broken if it has a decent chance to rally at the end of the turn. |

From the "Place Objectives" section of the Tournament Scenario: You capture an objective if you have a unit within 15cms of it in the end phase and your opponent does not. An objective is contested if both sides have a unit within 15cms of it in the end phase. Units from broken formations or from formations that have rallied that end phase can not capture or contest objectives. Aircraft which have landed may not capture an objective on the same turn that it lands. However, a landed aircraft may immediately contest an objective. |
