Fantastic. We should start a topic for arrange matches. Can't wait to try this out.

Anyone looking for a game, PM me to arrange a time.

I can help walk you through the interface, it takes some getting used to but quickly beomes easy to use.

Vassal is a code engine (program) that allows you to play board games over the internet. Vassal 40k is a library that allows you to play 40k with Vassal. This release will allow you to play Epic Armageddon.

This could be an extraordinary tool for playtesting, depending on how good the mod is. I'm up for trying it out sometime (had some trouble with Vassal and Vista but I'd sure give it a go!)

Seconded, is there any decent tutorial, preferably with screenshots? That would help a lot!

Is anyone able to riddle me this as a quick answer to save me time; does vassal work on linux systems from the get go?

Vassal works on Java.  Does Java work on Linux?

(I think so.... but not sure.)

Maps shouldn't be that big a deal, though nice maps will be rougher -- the main issue with maps for vassal mods is ensuring the graphic file fits with the hexes... this is not a problem here... though your pixel count is...

I haven't had a chance to look at the mod myself.  I'll try to find time to look this weekend.

Vassal's basic character as open source and mod-based means that documentation is generally weak.  "If it's free, even vinegar is juice.."  The upside is that Vassal hosts mods for a truly awesome range of games.  The downside is that most of these are amateur built, and lack documentation.

For the most part, Vassal is Drag-Drop and Right-click based.   Units and markers often reside in a tray accesible through the topline menu.

Your best bet would be to look up the documentation for the Russian Front module, the VASL module, or mods by Gary Krockover.  RF was set up as a flagship mod, so they may have done the documentation... VASL (virtual ASL) has been around a long time so may have a more significant fanbase... and Krockover is just a great designer who puts a tremendous amount into his modules... up to, perhaps, a user manual.

There's also a Vassal discussion thread on consimworld.com.

A quick "how to get a game started" would be great.

Yes, Java is platform-independant.

Time to put my mad technical writer skillz to the test. I'll write up how to set it up for you soon as I can.  :)
