Post subject:  When you move....
....does this hobby strike home as a sickness when it takes 3-4 times longer to pack your "toys" compared to the other stuff. ie clothes, dishes etc.


Its rather scary haha.

I'm like.." ZOMG I dont have enough bubble wrap..I'm screwed!!!" haha

I'll be moving across the continent this summer.  I'll ship all my other belongings, but my "babies" will be in the car with me as I drive cross-country.  :vD

Clothes? Other things? Stuff them into bags or boxes and they're good to go. Nothing untoward is going to happen to them.

if moving in summer keep in mind that a car in the sun can get hot enough to soften plastic...

I know a guy who lost a brettonian army that way...

I shipped 30+ armies in cases 1600 Kilometers. Put them tightly in cases (tackle box with soft foam padding) and pack those tightly into a cardboard box. Your mover won't care, plus they'll be covered by shipping insurance. Take a paper and photographic record before you go.

I've also heard of people who have had their armies stolen out of their cars at truck stop sand in parking garages at hotels. Shipped is safest.

Thats an extreme bummer for that to happen.

Though..really....the would be thief thinks they have something they can ditch for cash only to open...LITTLE ARMY MEN?!! Probably tossed in the dustbin. Shame really.

if this happens check local game stores, sometimes you get lucky. Just ask the owners to contact you if they turn up. Again, pics help.

A lot of people carry their miniatures in metal briefcases, tackle cases or gun cases, I've seen the latter a lot in the U.S.... *that's* why thievies thing they're getting something "valuable" when they snatch a case...

I one lost a double-sided GW miniature case full of 40k Eldar, with converted Exarchs, after leaving it on a bus... was heart-breaking... *thankfully* I was working for GW at the time or I would've never been able to replace the lost miniatures.

The case never showed up in the bus company's lost-and-found either... *sigh*

I seem to remember someone posting that they had an army stolen out of their jeep recently. The guy was heartsick (understandably). I keep my minis in GW cases too (they look like gun cases), but I don't travel with my armies. If someone wants to play against me they have to come to my home. To hell with game shops and those awful children!  :vD

This is why you treat your miniatures like top-secret files...handcuff them to yourself! In all reality though, having your miniatures stolen is something that well and truely sucks. If someone wants to steal something while you're not keeping an active watch on it, then there isn't much that can stop that determined will, especially if they think it's valuable. I'm lucky that I havent had it happen to me yet, and I pray that it never does happen.

I like the handcuffs idea :D GW should make some with the aquila motives.

Or a plastic POWERFIST glove for gripping your armycase handle really firmly.

I'm a sucker for their stupid stuff like that :D
