I can't seem to find rules for smoke in the E:A rules; I'm sure this is in there somewhere and I'm just not seeing them. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks, jav98 |

Jervis made a point of not including them in EA right from the start, if I remember correctly. His argument was that the mechanics are always messy, and in this environment sensors would not be affected. His prime reason was that firing smoke is like placing a flag on your units and asking the enemy to bombard here, please! |

I don't really agree with that reasoning. The last time I used smoke in a game, it wasn't to place it on my unit, but on an enemy's unit or between my unit and an enemy unit that might fire at it. Plus, I don't think every grunt, or even every Ork, is going to have sensors that can see through smoke. Also, even if you do place on your own unit, it's often to obscure the enemy's vision while you move somewhere else. |

Yeah, those Warhead rules are pretty good, now that I've read them. The only thing I'd add is a rule for smoke dischargers on vehicles (since they've got them on the models! At least the Rhinos and Land Raiders do) and smoke grenades/smoke pots for infantry. Maybe something along the lines of letting each vehicle have a single-use Smoke Screen (as per the Warhead article) that creates a 40mm x 10mm screen in front of the vehicle, with a strength of 2; infantry would have an identical Smoke Screen capability, but with a strength of 1. Something like that. |

Or just give them an invulnerable save? |

Or just give them an additional -1 to-hit. |

A to-hit modifier for smoke is certainly better than a save. Smoke doesn't stop bullets, it just obscures LOS. |

Yep ... in SM1 = -1 to hit ... Mojarn is correct ! |

That's what I was envisioning. I just wanted to clarify the smoke issue, as I was contemplating writing up a primer on combat engineers and smoke plays a big part in what they do. Thanks for your help! jav98 |
