Hi everyone. I'm planing on starting an Imperial Guard army, but I've never played the game before. I would like your opinion on the following 3000p list I've come up with: Regimental HQ + Flak Mechanised Infantry Coy Tank Coy Super-Heavy Tank Coy Storm Trooper Plat + Valkyries Vulture Sqd Artillery Battery I decided to include the Storm Troopers and Vultures just because I think they're so darn cool! I don't know how effective they are though. I figure I might use them to capture remote objectives. I believe I also lack AA. But I don't really know what to drop get some more Hydras. So, what do you think about this army? Is this a good starting army? |

Looks like a very reasonable build-out to me. ![]() Storm Troopers in Valkyries can be awesome for the late-game objective grab. ![]() |

Welcome to the side without cookies! Stormtroopers are fun, and can fulfil a great many roles. Delaying actions and objective taking amongst them. As for your core choices; keep the one tank company you like most and ditch the other one in favour of an artillery company. (5 Basilisk, 4 Manticore, Flak, Infantry Platoon.) Then use the "no longer a company" tanks to bolster other companies or as support formations. (I would in this case keep the Leman Company and use Baneblades as individuals.) |

Hi and welcome. As other have said what you have picked is a good initial selection of units. Assuming you are playing 3000 points games then you will probably want to select 3 out of the 4 company choices abd then several support choices. If you field all 4 company choices then you will struggle with number of activations. For example I played one game a while back against someone who was new to IG. He thought it would be great to take 3 Leman Russ Companies plus a Basilisk company. It meant that he did nt have the numbers and I was able to pick the fights. A good choice to have for Imperial Guard is Sentinels. Only 100 points and they are really useful in terms of occupying objectives. Good luck Cheers James |

With a small adjustment of your list, dropping Super Heavy Coy for 2 lone Super Heavies you could add in 2 extra hydras (to gain the extra AA coverage you were worried about) and gain an extra activation. Regimental HQ + Flak Mechanised Infantry Coy + Flak Tank Coy + Flak Storm Trooper Plat + Valkyries Vulture Sqd Artillery Battery Super Heavy Tank Super Heavy Tank You really need to play a few games and then adjust formations to suit your own style and preferences. There isn't a magic combination of formations or anything that must be taken otherwise the game is lost. Every formation has it's uses in the game you just need games under your belt to find your own preferred type of list and what works for you. |

Thanks for all the advice. Now I just need to order the figs and come up with a good color scheme. |
