How many points a side for Maksim's CONQUEST game? - Two to eight players...

I've planned 1,800 points a side with the provision if only two show up then we'll combine two of the sides for a 3,600 point game. It is scenario-driven as well.

I'm now questioning whether 1,800 points is adequate.

What does everyone think?

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!

I dont have such a good grasp of E:A point values, but viewing the book and the troops available it sounds okay. I assume this 1800 point total is to be divided with the players that show up?

Is this game a Demo or a game assuming some level of familiarity?

It's a demo (beginners welcome), but I think only experienced players will be there...

Each of the players wll receive an 1,800 point force unless...

We have only two players in which case, we'll play two 3,600 point sides or a different agreed-upon number.

Maksim-Smelchak.

If you expect experienced players I would bump it up to 2,000 points per player.  Thats is still playable as a complete newbie and a decent force for for experts.

Take Care and best of luck.

So when are your driving down to Santa Maria with that board... :;):

This is where I was going with my qustion. If the focus of the game is to Demo and you hope to pull Newbies, I would keep the points down and in fact I would build a force based on keeping the rules simple as well (limit the units with lots of "exceptions").

However, if your target is the player who already knows the rules then a higher point total makes more sense and yu will just have to hand hold any newbies who show up.

Hi!

I agree for newbies a smal force with the basic units to better grasp the mechanics is best, with a higher points amount for those who know the game already.

Hi Luis, Peter, Daniel and Gang,

Cuban Comissar: So when are your driving down to Santa Maria with that board...

We'll have to do that in the future. Maybe Dafrca can join us.

Where exactly is Santa Maria?

---

I'm thinking that I like the 1,800 point total. It gives several E-A detachments and isn't too big for a newbie to handle with help.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

It is about half way between us. Just south of San Luis Obispo. Nice city.

Based on my experience running a variety of demo and participation games I would offer the following advice.

If it is a demo/participation game, restrict each participant to a single formation and give them a card with all the relevant information on it.

Avoid complex units (or simplify them).

I would also avoid air units and artillery.

Hi Everyone,

We decided to go with 1,000 point sides so that if alll eight players show up, there will be two 4,000 point sides.

CONQUEST planning:
- Chern and I decided to have 1,000 point sides...
- Prepared 8 plus various 1,000 point army lists for CONQUEST (SM, Eldar, Nid, IG, etc.)...

CONQUEST terrain planning:
- Discussed Agriworld terrain set (I'm using it for CONQUEST)...
- Discussed Mars Forgeworld terrain set...

Fun:
- Met Chern at gaming shop and playes Settler of Cataan with Cities and Knights expansion - cleaned his clock...
- Watched one of those WFB Dwarf axe-thrower things go in a WFB game... very cool... like a big lawn-mower of troops...

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
