I played Imperial guard yesterday and had an unpleasant experience with my Chaos. I've got a rematch planned for next week, 4000 pts, and I'm looking for general ideas, hints, tips, suggestions, etc for how I should approach making my army list and playing the game. Any help would be appreciated. |

What kind of unpleasant experience did you have? My Gargant Bigmob was finally defeated yesterday, by IG as well. It was the first game we'd played that went to 5 turns and it still ended in tie-breaker: IG - 1625 vs OGBM - 1600. The closest game we've ever played! *laugh* Leman Russ companies are horrifying! And massed fire-fighting infantry stands can do a lot of damage. What was your experience against them? |

Well, ok here goes. First off, I'm a terrible player when in new situations so my confidence was low to begin with as I had not faced IG before. I read up on them and knew the two army lists involved so I was able to develop a two fold strategy: duel artillery with my defilers, and on turn two teleport in 6 chosen + 2 oblits to assault the leman russ company with FF support from any large marine formations I had nearby. Well, the first turn artillery-negation plan worked flawlessly, with the defilers breaking the manticores and a forlorn hope suicide attack breaking the basilisks leaving only Bombards which had no range to anything except the forlorn hope formation. At the beginning of turn 2 I teleported the termies into 5 cm of the exposed and alone leman russes and was ready to assault when I lost the roll to go first. Even with a +2 advantage, I rolled a one (my second one in the game BTW) and he rolled the 4+ he needed to beat that. Well, the Leman Russes sustained fire and broke the terminators by killing 3 of them (darn teleport blast marker helped) and then ran them into the ground with thunderbolt attack runs and a single manticore. Other minor disasters also occurred to have most of my army broken or dead before the rally phase of turn 2 with most of his army still humming along. If only I had won init on turn 2, it could have been a different outcome. Drat. Still, when a game comes down to "if I make this roll I don't lose" then that means your plan is seriously flawed so I'm looking for more help. Ideas, hints, tactics, overall strategies, anything. |
